To be honest I would also still be referring to my most memorable role 40 years later.

(From the Goodreads page.) But Liz, there are always constraints on governments' freedom of action. Also, no-one voted for your fiscal policies.
But this is not simply the story of one government’s downfall. It is a warning about British democracy itself.

If elected governments cannot implement the policies voters choose, who is really in charge?

This kind of thing is enraging, denying him any chance to demonstrate that he has reformed and can re-engage with society.
But for 14 years he has been unable to make use of the cards because of a Home Office decision that he should be deported. All this time he has been kept on a deportation list, which means he cannot work, rent somewhere to live, receive benefits or do anything that would allow him to start rebuilding his life. Instead, he remains on the edge of destitution, reliant on the kindness of family and friends to survive.

No, no, it's very simple: they already have functioning models that do this, they want to bundle them all together onto one simple easy p̶a̶y̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ .model
The model is intended to address a fundamental challenge in analysing LHC collisions. Today, reconstruction relies on a chain of specialised algorithms that progressively transform detector signals into the particles and other objects used for physics analysis. Machine learning has long played an important role in this process, improving performance across a range of specialised tasks. Foundation models offer the potential to build on these advances, learning across the whole reconstruction chain and supporting multiple tasks within a single model

Just looked up Always The Last To Know on YouTube for nostalgia and found this anecdote.
I used to go to Karaoke in a pub in Glasgow. One night the lyrics weren't coming up on the screen. A guy came up and said he'd sing 'the last to know'. The woman in charge of the Karaoke said 'that's a really hard song to sing'. She didn't know Del Amitri had been doing an interview at BBC studios across the road and had come into the pub for a drink. We ribbed her for months after that. Best night ever.

Keeping an eye on future Wikipedia (this entry being IBM's own Tom Watson).
Watson authorized providing Nazi Germany with data processing solutions and involved IBM in cooperation throughout the 1930s and until the end of World War II, profiting from both the German and American war efforts.[4] A leading self-made industrialist,[5] he was one of the richest men of his time when he died in 1956.

Perfectly normal and popular flavour enhancers like Aromat are basically MSG, but don't get the suspicion because they've got a friendly brand name.

For all the "this wouldn't happen under the Conservatives" rhetoric, the guidance was last updated in 2020 under a Conservative government and stresses a Council's duty to engage with affected groups during the design stage.

If you read the list of ingredients for barbeque flavouring for crisps it will mostly be exactly these ingredients!
It is possible to buy crisps that are not ultra-processed, when the ingredient list simply reads “potatoes, oil, salt”. But if you want a flavour other than plain salt, such as barbecue or salt and vinegar, you run into ingredients that are markers of UPF including colourings and flavourings. I wanted to see if it was possible to recreate those chip flavours at home.

I thinly sliced two potatoes, soaked them in water to remove the starch, then patted them dry and placed them on a baking tray in a single layer. I sprayed them with oil and sprinkled on some seasoning mixture before baking. I tried to make a barbecue flavour using smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and salt. For salt and vinegar chips, I used vinegar powder and salt.

Sigh; egg yolk is an emulsifier, "flavours" are ultra-processed now. www.theguardian.com/food/2026/oc...
A nutritionist and public health researcher at Deakin Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition, Dr Priscila Machado, describes UPFs as “branded, commercial formulations made from cheap ingredients extracted or derived from whole foods, combined with additives, and mostly containing little to no whole food”. She says looking at ingredient lists is a practical way to spot them: “If there are ingredients you don’t recognise or use at home, like protein isolates, emulsifiers, colour, flavours, and other additives, it’s probably ultra-processed.”

This summarises something I've been groping towards: society provides a structure for collective memory. Intelligence is limited by the speed at which it can assemble and construct ideas: if a single intelligence has to reproduce that all by itself, that's a severe constraint.
To the extent that you can assign a value or an upper limit to ‘human intelligence’, that number is derived not from our individual IQs but the information bandwidth of our society. It is limited by the speed with which we can collectively explore the problem spaces our species encounters; problems that almost always require us to make, build, test, find or explore something in the real world before we can make the next painstaking increment of progress. It is limited even further by the speed with which we can implement something useful based on that discovery, and spread that change across the world.
