Not every mechanic explored in here is relevant to TTRPG design, but with the number of innovations that have moved into TTRPGs from board games, I’m finding it a useful read.

Their stuff is so pretty and I think you — yes, unspecified reader with excellent taste, YOU — would like it very much.

The exceptions of course being those who’ve migrated to my shelves of pride — including my TTRPG collection, and the tall shelf that used to be part of my remote work backdrop before I shifted my camera so my backdrop is now mostly an empty wall.

I’ve been repeatedly recommended to get some hobbies that I’m not trying to excel at / monetize (and that don’t require screens), so I’ve been occasionally doing little sketches to relax. It’s been really, really nice.

I also want to say, I love the little deck of playing cards I’ve set aside for my TTRPG use. They came from a new years cracker and it feels so cool to have a little travel deck to use for these games.

I improvised myself a table I could use to roll the traits of each character's writing style going into the first entries. We'll see if it's useful as I go, or if it ends up feeling clear as mud, but it's already helping me grasp contrast points between certain POVs and styles.
TEXT:

Character’s Writing Style

Each is a range, rolled on a d4 from one extreme (1) to the other (4).

Terse to Long-Winded
Guarded to Expressive
Cynical to Hopeful
Realistic to Daydreaming
Self-Aware to Self-Ignorant
Intentional to Exploratory
Observational vs. Internal

I am tired of having a bunch of fantastically interesting tomes of game design on my shelves that I’ll ’read later’, so one of my initiatives for the year is to get into reading them. Complete with a nerdy little Sheets tracker with three-month milestones, and a list of other relevant readings. 😁

That said, the Eden boots were the beginning. I saw them when I was freelancing and had no money, and were so far out of my budget they may as well have been exclusively available to residents of the moon. My second ‘fashion moment’ was my Primavera Vest from Envygreen, which I still treasure.
