A little bit about our ~ Art Nouveau ~ items and the inspiration behind them!! Alt text in images!

Why art nouveau? Our modern understanding of Art Nouveau is often just vibes- shapes, floral motifs, and a lot of Alphonse Mucha. Art nouveau is more than that- it’s jewelry, architecture, printmaking, and
part of a greater art movement!

From the 1880s to 1930s, modern art movements were focusing on florals and organic forms. With our 2026 eyes, we tend to focus on simple motifs or smash them all together. As always, I was inspired by many artists within the Art Nouveau movement, Art Deco, Impressionism, and the symbols and concepts that make them tick.

a little long-format treat for the bsky folks: please enjoy my dissertation on ~ how discharge printing works~ and how we're selling b-grades of this vest!

TEXT READS: Decomposition, OR: a little bit about acid wash & discharge printing!

TEXT READS: when we thought up this vest, we were super proud of it: we used TWO dye methods to create its effect. a discharge screen print, and an all-over acid wash.

TEXT READS: this is Marc, our Armorer (product designer). he works as a professional fabric printer for high-fashion houses here in NYC, and came up with the idea for these dye methods, working out the best way to make it happen. we didn't know how it would turn out, but we were excited to try!

TEXT READS: the print on this garment is done in two steps: 1.) a clear fluid is screen printed on top of the cotton knit that "discharges" the color from the cotton. this only works on natural fibers! 2. an acid wash is tumbled over the knit to "distress" it, lifting the color on raised areas like ribbing & armholes. this causes natural irregularities & makes every piece one of a kind.
