Belated #Mermay - still owe final details, but pretty satisfied with this piece!

Red Shift A graphic novel via photography. We’ve shot just one page as a proof of concept. Still in post, but even the master contact sheet starts to get the vibe across! Also, see the storyboard we worked from!

A black and white contact print of different studio photos depicting sci-fi scenes. The title “Red Shift” is added in the center.

Space. Comics. Analog media. Character driven stories. Practical effects. Earlier this year I began to slowly bring a medium-defying concept into reality. A few weeks ago, with the help of amazing people, I shot a proof of concept for it. Can’t wait to share more about just what this project is!

Auto-translating video titles was bad enough. But ai-dubbing videos into English when I speak the fucking original language with no way to activate the original audio is the height of stupidity. AI can only make people dumber. Fuck YouTube.

A photograph of the view from Columbia Rock at Yosemite National Park. The landscape includes jagged and rocky mountains featuring trees, most of which are tall pine trees. The sunlight that is low and directional, which provides a sense of depth to the mountain face. The sky is blue with a few wispy clouds, and a small and faintly visible moon.

@moderation.bsky.app - please fix this! Any time I post art and I apply the non-sexual nudity label, it gets a sexually suggestive label too that I need to appeal. #art #moderation #censorship #algorithm

A screenshot of the labels on a recent post of mine. The post (not pictured) was an in-process sketch of a character, shown nude but not rendered with any sort of detail and not in a suggestive way.

The screenshot shows two labels placed on the content: One, placed by me, indicates non-sexual nudity. The other, placed by Bluesky, indicates Sexually Suggestive content that does not include nudity.

Flat colors > cel shading > tweaks and details Tomorrow I’ll post the finished piece with extra details and the background drawn in! #art #characterart #character #oc #drawing #digitalart #clipstudio #color #shading #render #orc #dnd #d&d #dndoc #fantasy #orc

An illustration of an orc or half-orc humanoid character. The character has a grey mullet with purple tips and green skin. She has some facial piercings and gold arm bands. She wears loose fitting grey pants and brown moccasins. Her shirt is a cropped and sleeveless two-part top. One hand is in a pocket on her thigh, and the other is in a relaxed position near her knee and holds a rapier with the tip pointed at the ground. She is in a seated pose, though there is no background or chair visible.

The character is rendered in flat colors, with no shading or extra textures or details. The linework is black, which results in a bold and high-contrast look, but isn’t very dynamic.

Pose sketch > fit sketch > cleaned up lines Picking a pose that demands a prop such as a chair or something to lean on dead not my brightest idea #art #sketch #drawing #character #oc #characterart #artist #digitalart #d&d #d&dart #dnd #process #clipstudio

A sketch of a character. The character is in a seated, slouched pose. The angle of her legs and feet indicate being seated in a high chair or other object, although nothing is actually drawn for her to be sitting on. This sketch is just the pose, with no clothes or other details.

A sketch the builds on the previous one. Over the nude pose clothes have been drawn, including a rough idea of accessories. A line is drawn through where I envision later drawing a sword.

The cleaned up line work based on the previous sketch. Where the sketch indicated rougher ideas, thoughts have been fully fleshed out in line work that will serve for the final piece. The most dramatic example of this is a detailed rapier held in the character’s left hand, which was just indicated by a line before.

This week I’m going to do something AI “artists” can’t do - show you the process First, a sketch of the face. Some characters don’t make it past this point, but if I feel good about it, we keep going #art #oc #character #artist #drawing #sketch #portrait #fantasy #orc #d&d #dnd #npc #noAI

A digital sketch of a character portrait. The character appears mostly human, but she has pointy ears and small tusks, which characterize an orc or half-orc in many properties. She has a messy mullet with hand-cut hacked up bangs. Her expression is mostly neutral, but might be interpreted as a slight smile, smirk, or suspicious in nature.

I don’t remember where I took this and I can’t be bothered to figure it out. Coastal SoCal, likely near Buenaventura 🎞️ Kodak Portra 160 📷 Mamiya RZ67 #film #photography #mediumformat #120film #filmphoto #analog #believeinfilm #architecture #street #socal #palm #flag #mamiya #kodak #portra160

A photograph of a building. There are palm trees beside it, about as tall as the structure. A flag waves atop the roof. The background is a clear blue sky. The building is made of stone and features some simple detailing along the top, and a fire escape on one side.

Closed - Do not enter 🎞️ Lomochrome Purple 📷 Mamiya RZ-67 (I’m sure this camera is popular with the youths) #film #filmphotography #mediumformat #120film #believeinfilm #shotonfilm #landscape #nature #street #streetphotography #california #Lomochrome #LomochromePurple

A photograph of a fence in front of a road, featuring a sign that reads “Closed, Do Not Enter.” The road is rural, lined by a few trees including some palm trees, which stand out above the rest. The sky is clear and cloudless.

This photo is shot on LomoChrome Purple, a type of film that results in color shifts across the spectrum. In this image, the green leaves and grass are rendered in tones of purple and pink instead, and the sky appears more greenish that the typical blue. Neutral tones such as the grey asphalt remain unaffected.

Doing a self-guided drawing program, was pleased with the results of this prompt to draw from an existing illustration as reference Forgot to color the eyes, tho 🤦🏼 Jester Lavorre from @criticalrole.bsky.social, reference was the official Jester art by Ari #criticalrole #art #fanart #dnd #critrole

An illustration of Jester Lavorre from Critical Role. Jester is a blue-colored tiefling, or a humanoid with horns, pointy ears, and a tail. She is dressed in medieval-fantasy attire, including a short green cape, leather corset-style armor, and a blue skirt.

The drawing features rough-textured line work and grey shading over a sort of water-color style coloring.

A more detailed view of the face from the previous drawing. The drawing features rough-textured line work and grey shading over water-color style coloring.

I’ve been on my last straw with Spotify for awhile, but Sylvan Esso pulling their music may be the nudge I needed to actually leave it behind. Apple Music is the next big option that comes to mind to replace it, but what else is available? What do you use?
