There's still things to clean up, but my partner, @arzenpai.bsky.social, did an absolutely amazing job with this page for the upcoming Stormrider preview! Interested in riding a sick-ass motorcycle in Draw Steel? Follow us to be alerted when we go live! www.backerkit.com/call_to_acti...

Took some time today to test out my planned layout for Treat Yourself. Everything here isn't final but I am pleased on how clean and cohesive it looks so far.

Huge shoutout to @nalshiradraws.bsky.social for the absolutely wonderful artwork of the various respite activities in Treat Yourself. It got me excited to finish writing that Draw Steel downtime supplement so I can lay them out onto the page.

Finished drafting 45 new respite activities for Treat Yourself, my next #DrawSteel supplement focused on expanding downtime. A hero in motion wants to stay in motion. These 1-day activities help heroes channel their energies while on an adventure. Still needs tuning but they've been fun to write.

There is advice in my negotiation supplement, Speak Carefully, that outcomes are much easier to envision when the negotiator has their own goal. I've ran the outcomes as both a binary whether they convinced or not, and the degree the negotiator feels confident in the heroes based on the arguments.

I found my old microfiction folder today. What a trip down memory lane. It's wild how much more visceral this particular piece feels now than when I first wrote it back in 2020.

This apocalypse doom thing really, really has to stop. Like right now. All my friends keep joking that the country’s going to collapse. I don't believe them. But in my heart, I can't say it's unfounded. Yet without a date, I can’t prepare. The bastards.

So, I’m outwaiting them. I’ve locked my front door, closed the curtains, stacked the fridge with suya, set up my books, and I’m staying here until they turn up and tell me for sure. No messing around.

That was a few months ago. I’m still waiting.

I took a peek out the curtains. I see more police, more heavily armed than before. I don't know what's going on anymore. Given time, that uncertain monster on the other side of the door begins to look friendly.

I can't even remember how the sun feels like anymore.

Working on my downtime supplement for Draw Steel, and I’m really proud of this section! Here’s a little peek at the draft for the book’s intro.
Who We Become at Rest

The sword is inherently a destructive force. When the heroes draw steel, it serves as the declaration that violence and finality are needed to sever the virulent influence of the malign. The blade acts as a surgical instrument, cutting away the rot of evil so that the world may survive.

But an empty battlefield is merely an open wound. Survival alone cannot sustain civilization. Heroism demands more than an ending; it also requires new beginnings.

Once their weapons are sheathed, this is the chance for the heroes to become creative forces. This is the moment where they can focus on the future they wish to build for themselves; one that, when they finally draw steel again, they know exactly what they are fighting to protect.

Looking back at old games for inspiration and I found this class card I've made for a SEA-inspired mystery-heist game. Everyone who took this class really loved Fan the Flames. They used to as often as they could to cause so much mischief. Maybe I can rework some of these as perks.
A class card that reads:

Fan the Flames. Blunder. Incorporate into an action and gain a spirit point. Cause an incident that starts getting out of control. How did it that happen? Narrate it in your reply.

Crash and Burn. Class Ability. Use an action and spend a spirit point.
Cause a big destructive scene. Pick one effect:
1. Bang. Destroy an asset & destroy part of the area
2. Blast. Deal 3 Wounds to all foes and 1 random ally
3. Burst. Apply Vulnerable to everyone. All DEF is 0
4. Boom. Disable heist security this round. They return the next round with +8 Heat.

Took a quick a break to draft a train solo for Draw Steel. I know I'll likely clean the area up in a later revision, but I'm of the mind that the first villain action should make a really strong impression. The 100 is a placeholder. I have no idea how long the train will be yet.
A snippet of a solo monster stat block for Draw Steel. The solo action's first villain action is "Run Away! Train!" It has an area of 100 x 5 line line within 1, and targets each creature and object in the area.

24 hours left for the Speak Carefully launch sale, with over 150 community copies raised! I've also added some QoL updates, including a Forge Steel Sourcebook, bookmarks, and form-fillable handouts. Itch: ritehunter.itch.io/speak-carefu... RPG Trader: rpg-trader.com/products/801...

I set myself a 45 page limit for Treat Yourself, my next standalone product. I just finished outlined aaaaand and I'm already at 32 pages. Looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me hahahaha
A word count from google docs saying that there are 32 pages.

It’s been a week since my partner and I celebrated our anniversary, and I’m still in tears over this. They made me a TRPG battlejacket! They're so thoughtful huhuhu

My partner has been telling me to rest up since the past few days have been so eventful. However, the morning song of a new project lures me ever so gently into that good night. I don't yet know where I'm going with all of this, but I want to explore this itchy part of my brain.

Play-by-Post Design Is Like Street Art Heyo! My name is Milo and I've been hosting and designing play-by-post (PbP) games for over 4 years now. PbP is a format rarely discussed and I'll be sharing perspectives from my own community. Hopefully these insights can enrich other PbP communities too.
Play-by-Post Design Is Like Street Art

It’s everywhere if you care to look for it.

There is something foundationally innocent in the idea that no matter where you go, people will find a way to play games with each other. If someone could leave some mark somewhere, another one can respond and connect beyond the confines of synchronicity or physicality — a mural that screams to the world that I was here and you found me.

Virtual spaces are also community spaces. They are places where people can congregate, talk, explore, and play together. Except, we can only communicate with each other by altering the very space we navigate. Messages hang in the air for everyone to see; forum posts don’t leave once their contents are understood; every single bit of communication is an artefact of play — much like chalk marks of a hopscotch game yet to be washed by the rain.

Yet we can only express through what we are allowed to alter, confined by the architecture of the digital space, its layout, and the tools it provides. One must first learn to navigate the space before learning the rules of the game.

It is here that play-by-post designers see beyond the confines of what was intended. While they can’t construct new elements, they can design over the virtual space itself, augmenting and reframing its features. Any website can suddenly become a rich tapestry of collective storytelling — displacing corporate intention with mediums of expression.

Every site has a dedicated play-by-post community. It is perhaps one of the most enduring formats there is. Even if we could never be together in time or space, we can still play together. Our writing will be there for anyone to find.
