Just out of totally unrelated curiosity, how much has the cost of health care increased since 1994? fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MEPCE... Apparently the answer is 'about 4 times as much, or 400%'.

This seems all too plausible right now.

Sure, my emotions are saying 'death penalty', but there are problems with that, such as it being irreversible if new evidence emerges. And sure, details need worked out. But it seems distinctly unjust to me, for there to be impermanent consequences for an act that has permanent consequences.

I think we need to have a permanent financial burden levied as restitution for this kind of thing. As in, someone who does this has to pay for it, literally, for the rest of their life. The amount should be a percentage of the total wealth a person has access to, updated as that wealth changes.

It seems like 'won't get a fair shake' might mean something different to him. I mean, after all, he got away with shit for literally decades, and these are just new up and coming sexual predators, he has to protect the new talent? What the fuck are we even doing in this country anymore.

I think he's conflating the court with his personal power, and sees that expanding it will reduce that personal power.

Well, there would definitely be a reason, but it isn't a sure thing that it was warnings of a threat to them that caused the move. Could be some other unstated reason and they're using the threat as cover, though that seems convoluted.

But if they make it short, someone might read it and realize it's incoherent ranting.

I meant to use the word 'manner', not 'matter.'

If we don't face our failures, how can we progress and grow? Obviously, we cannot, it seems, as is being demonstrated in so blatant a matter every day.

uh...why does it say 5th in the top part of that caption?

Doesn't mean we shouldn't try, if only as a stopgap until we can... ...change the entire culture of the global economy so profit is no longer the primary motivator?

I'm not sure a profit-oriented business can ever regulate itself properly.

I mean, they've been having the government subsidize their companies for decades now, this is just the latest iteration.

What the hell is undignified about a standard mailing envelope? And how much money did they waste on this?

False accusation hoping to get payments? Rapist kills after to avoid, or later after the verdict?
000
riftmaster.bsky.social @riftmaster.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I found myself wondering if you could require a rapist to subsidize the person they harmed for the rest of their life. Since, effectively, they caused permanent harm. Like child support payments, but for longer. Not sure how that would play out.

That would have to run the gauntlet of the constitution's 8th amendment banning cruel and unusual punishment. It seems unlikely that it would be allowed.

It seems like the kind of mistake AI would make - mix up similar sounding words/things that are not at all the same.

you can sometimes rephrase a question as non-political, by making it 'hypothetical', or 'I have a theory to explore'.

We aren't as bad, nowhere near, and you're safer in some areas where the people and even government will take measures to protect you.

Democrats vs. Republicans in a nutshell. This absolutely nails it.

Perhaps just don't let them call it something else, define things by behavior and practice, not name.

That could be corrupted to of course.

So make them broad and 'spiritual intent', and establish enforcement bodies which prosecute violation of the spirt of the law, rather than the letter of it.

Maybe our definitions should be more broad, for regulation, or I dunno...something to prevent that.

Has anyone else noticed a trend in the last decade or so, of people and companies taking an existing regulated industry, calling it something else, and using the time before regulation catches up (if it does) to make profit?

Doesn't he literally run the government? How many are actually trying to find this money?

If he had to do that, he'd never have been elected in the first place. No one makes him do it, so he won't.

The Presidency is a privilege and a duty, not a right.

That seems like something you could achieve IRL, not just in a game. The circumstances seem at least plausibly possible.

my personal version of a tl;dr for this: DraftKings intentionally and deliberately enables and supports problem gambling, because it's where they make the biggest margin of profit.

Decades of proving it, I mean.

It will take decades to even approach a point of regaining trust.

For extra points, toss in a bit of "we want to do this", to contrast.

At this point there are dozens of these, there should be a montage of him saying them followed by the local democrat candidate saying "I oppose that. Vote for me." Would only need the one anti-trump ad.

Apparently if you have a 401k or retirement investments, they probably are in a mutual fund, and many people have are probably getting invested into SpaceX as a result, even if they don't realize it.
110
riftmaster.bsky.social @riftmaster.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I worry that they're trying to spread the risk, though. I haven't been paying attention to every move made in the stock market, but I did hear that it was unusual for SpaceX to be added to some index so fast. But it's the indexes that decide where mutual funds get invested.

It seems to have been slow, but I think more and more people are realizing that if a bunch of money is being spent on a candidate, they may want to take a really good look and see if that candidate is a bad choice.

No, it's because likely every AI company and everyone invested in them is telling him we have to keep growing. I think he's invested in AI, actually, so there you go, he's helping himself, like always.
