Interaction with AK2A links AIFM1 to cellular energy metabolism

Interaction with AK2A links AIFM1 to cellular energy metabolism
AIFM1 is crucial for mitochondrial function. Here, Rothemann, Pavlenko et al. show that AK2A interacts with NADH-dependent AIFM1 dimers. They demonstrate that this interaction stabilizes AIFM1 dimers and enhances their activity. Given the proximity to ADP/ATP translocases and ATP synthase, the AIFM1-AK2A complex may contribute to metabolic adaptation.

New work in a great team effort with the @poepsel-lab.bsky.social. We identified novel interactors of AIFM1 and found that this protein once only associated with cell death is a master organizer of the mito-IMS: By interaction with AK2 and SLC25 family members ensuring metabolic adaptation.

@dfg.de retreats are great, especially when they come with a foosball table with integrated shot glasses - best networking! Cheers to that, SPP2453 @warscheidlab.bsky.social @cmunch.bsky.social @herrmannlab.bsky.social @riemerlab.bsky.social @jaelab.bsky.social

The evolving role of mitochondria in metabolism
The history of mitochondria begins with their recognition as distinct cellular organelles in 1888 by Walther Flemming and the introduction of the term mitochondrion from the Greek roots meaning ‘thre…

A new tool from our lab :-). Together with the Brachvogel, Bogeski and Mielenz labs. We developed a genetically encoded sensor to monitor activity of the dipeptidases DPP8 and DPP9 in cells allowing us to ask fundamental questions about their spatiotemporal regulation. DOI: 10.26508/lsa.202403076

A new study from the @riemerlab.bsky.social and the bange lab. We found a new mode how specific degradation motifs become unmasked by DPP8/9. Really nice work by Kim, Konstantin and Franziska. As usual accompanied by a special graphical abstract. doi.org/10.1038/s443...

We just published a study on the first endogenous cysteine-free interactor of the mitochondrial disulfide relay - HAX1. HAX1 relies on MIA40 for folding and stability and does not require the redox fxn of MIA40. Nice collaboration w/ #ulrichlab. doi.org/10.1111/febs...
