You are of course correct. The issue is we KNOW he doesn’t have universal support amongst colleagues who are too gutless to stand up and be counted - the “arselickmanship” (my fav new word!) on display will leave the next government much the poorer for the lack of debate it’s resulted in

The Combined Authorities Order 2017 says that there must be EXACTLY 19 working days between the close of nominations & day of the poll Removing one of these as a bank holiday hence reduces the gap to 18, so the election would need to be moved to Fri 31 or risk being overturned
