You only need to see how angry many of the columnists got because Zach dared to speak some Urdu. They really wanted the by-election to destroy Zach and the Greens and you can tell they're seething that they came a respectable second during the height of the Burnham bounce.

There's a palpable sense of disappointment and irritation from Labour types on BS that the result wasn't the slam-dunk rejection of the Greens and Polanski they wanted. Labour is still very vulnerable on it's left and they do not like it one bit.

It feels like they're doing the "Ming vase" tactic that they did with Starmer. Quietly fly her in under the radar. And columnists and Pol profs seem to be complicit. Lots to say about Polanski's attempt to speak Urdu, but nothing about her, or her views, or her history as a councillor.

Seeing the steady decay of Reform's vote share I do wonder about all those councillors who got in on a wave of support which has now receeded. It's a boring, unrewarding, poorly paid job that requires a lot of effort to make any difference and not the fun they were probably expecting.
