I was pleased to see the recent statement from the Minister of Transport. This reflects the strong advocacy of the 416 Caucus and the concerns many of us have raised on behalf of Torontonians.
Toronto's waterfront is one of our city's most important public assets. Tens of thousands of people call it home in one of Canada's most densely populated urban communities.
Over the last number of months, there has been significant public uncertainty about the future of this airport. Torontonians were looking to our caucus for leadership. We earn their trust by governing transparently, acting accountably, and protecting our environment and public assets.
I want to share with you publicly the Spadina-Harbourfront Consultation Report and The Future of Toronto's Waterfront Billy Bishop Airport Survey Analysis, an independently researched report. Together, they provide a clear record of what Spadina -Harbourfront residents have said since the beginning, and what I have used to advocate for you in Ottawa.
The message from Spadina-Harbourfront is clear: Toronto's waterfront must grow with our community, not at its expense. The City of Toronto must be a partner in determining its future, in the long term.
Our community does not accept 10 million passengers or a 900-metre runway expansion. We do not accept a future that jeopardizes residents' health, the environment, marine use, housing or public space.
I've always worked for the interests of residents, and I will always be your voice in Ottawa.
