And for those new to the track, yes, it is the tune of The Beach Boys’ Catch A Wave with a skateboard lyric stuck over the top. And it also has some chat at the end with J&D about the hazards of barefoot boarding

When I first came across Jan and Dean’s Sidewalk Surfin in the late 70’s, I was amazed that skateboarding had been a craze in the states going back to the early 60s. This clip really captures some that vibe youtu.be/x_Qr6Ky1Lbg?...

So, the interns had free reign to source any track they pleased, just as long as it matched the sentiments of the presenter’s script. That explains a lot!

I always used to wonder if HUTH had some special kind of music licensing contract which allowed them to play any tune they fancied - which is why they could afford to be so incredibly literal with all of their song clips choices.

Bit about George from Pandemonium Records here. As well as charging people to browse, he used to deliberately price records much higher than the list price, and then offer to tape them for you. www.thevinylfactory.com/news/50000-r...

In the early 80s, the actor Peter Davison was the ‘guest of honour’ at my secondary school’s summer fete. He declined an invitation to go in the makeshift stocks and get pelted with damp sponges in aid of charity, so I churlishly threw one at him as he walked away, catching him on the shoulder.

Curtis so cooly describing Status Quo’s hard rocking, head banging rendition of Big Fat Mama as having been ‘monstrous’ is a top moment as well.

Was a cracking night at the Jazz Cafe in Camden last night with the Curtom Orchestra. Two hours of Curtis classics, with a really positive vibe in the room.

I remember at the launch of the NOMA neighbourhood back in 2013, someone from a London consultancy involved in Co-Op’s masterplan said to me “It’s a real challenge creating a mixed used district like NOMA from scratch. It’s not like Spinningfields, which has always been there.”

Saw them at Bury Met on Sunday. They projected such sincerity, and performed such vivid and finely crafted tunes in such an understated and uncynical way, it felt like a gig from a different era.

I think if Anthony H had been introing it, that New Order ‘inspired’ bass riff would have got a mention. Still an incredibly fresh sounding tune though, even today.
