There needs to be legislation regarding inappropriate access of confidential personal information. Over the years I have encountered people snooping around in NHS, Social Services, banking and tax records of acquaintances and public figures. Access needs to be restricted, legitimate and recorded.

I don't think money changes good people. It is more that bad people are attracted to money, ruthless and motivated, and are more likely to become wealthy.

They remind me of those children's ride-on suitcases. When you are travelling you've got to look insouciant and cool. That's why you need an olive green pack, a beard and sunglasses, and just grunt when people talk to you so they think you are with the special forces.

Back pain can be really disabling. The only consolation is that it does normally recover with time. I was in a bad car accident when I was younger with a broken pelvis, dislocated sacrum and L5. Very painful but lots of exercises and working on posture fixed it. All good now.

Looks like someone who stays in nice hotels on expenses. I have a couple of Macpac rucksacks, large and small. Tough as old boots, 20 years old and still going strong. For a new carry-on, I'd get one of these in olive green with laptop sleeve. www.aiguillealpine.co.uk/product/ruck...

So called intelligence tests measure the ability to pass intelligence tests. The fact that you can raise your score so much just by practicing them suggests to me that they are measuring a skill rather than intelligence.

Russ Holmes @rholmes.eurosky.social · 16/10/2026
It depends how you define intelligence: I think it relates to the depth and detail of one's mental model of the world and ability to adapt to novel situations. None of these people are intelligent but they might be successful in particular environments due to drive, experience and self confidence.

Russia didn't get so large by accident. Russia has always been hostile, and the West's error was not treating it as so after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

NATO and the EU are not expansionist empires, they are organisations that countries voluntarily join for economic and defence benefits. In this case to defend against Russia. There is no reason that Russia should be an equal partner. Russia is a menace, as Ukraine has proved.

Russ Holmes @rholmes.eurosky.social · 15/10/2026
Actually, when Johnson was Foreign Secretary, he was not at all supportive of Ukraine and was trying to achieve a "reset" with Putin. He only pivoted to support when he had no other choice, and exploited it to cosplay Churchill. Alex Hall Hall and John Sweeney have covered this.

Absolutely. Russia knows that they cannot compete with the West economically, technologically, logistically or culturally. All they have is subversion, which they are masters at. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, we let our guard down.

Alexander "Boris" Johnson's support for Brexit probably carried it over the line. He was allegedly persuaded to back it by a group associated with the oligarch Alexander Termerko. What assistance was given to Arron Banks during his numerous meetings with Russian embassy officials?

Brown was old school: say what you think. He was curmudgeonly and Calvinist but a decent guy. The right wing press had a field day with him, such as the odious Clarkson with his "one-eyed Scotsman comment". However, he was the conscience of New Labour and responsible for much of their good policies.
