Tipping bucket rain gauge I got cheap on Aliexpress. Had planned on building a DIY gauge using a time-of-flight water level sensor and syphon but this saves a lot of time. Using nRF52840 board and LoRa wireless protocol to transmit readings. Should get 5 year battery life on AAA cells.

It all revolves around the Conservative leadership election process implemented by William Hague. Until that is fixed, the membership will keep electing lunatics.

The irony of democracy is that the electorate can be manipulated into voting it away. On the scale of human history, democracy has been fleeting. Enjoy it while it lasts.

They remind me of those children's ride-on suitcases. When you are travelling you've got to look insouciant and cool. That's why you need an olive green pack, a beard and sunglasses, and just grunt when people talk to you so they think you are with the special forces.

Russia didn't get so large by accident. Russia has always been hostile, and the West's error was not treating it as so after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

Puffballs are nice when young and white all the way through. As soon as they start to change colour, are inedible. Always cut in half to distinguish from immature death caps, which are shaped like little white eggs but have a developing stem and cap inside. This picture is of a puffball cut in half.
A young common puffball mushroom cut in half, showing solid white inside and no sign of a developing stalk and cap as would be found in a dangerous Amanita mushroom.

This all goes back to William Hague changing the leadership selection process to a final election by the membership rather than MPs. It means that potential candidates are always trying to appeal to a group of swivel-eyed lunatics.

The only European countries with a higher incarceration rate than the UK are former Iron Curtain countries. Do we really want to move towards that?

According to the Moscow Times story, she told medical staff that she broke a vile. I suspect that she didn't tell anyone until admitted to hospital, by which time it was too late to treat and she had exposed countless staff and patients to pneumonic plague. Hence the quarantine.
NeMoskva Reports
A "highly dangerous infection" has been detected in the Irkutsk region—it may be plague. A citywide cleanup day in Irkutsk has been cancelled. Anna Popova, the Chief State Sanitary Doctor, flew to the Irkutsk region and held an urgent meeting, the regional governor announced...
Plague in the Irkutsk region: a researcher died after breaking a test tube. Nearly 200 people hospitalized.

🔸 According to the "People of Baikal" project, the deceased researcher had been working in the Trans-Baikal region with animals infected with plague. Her name was Darya Sh., and she was 28 years old. Before her death, she told doctors she had accidentally broken a test tube containing the dangerous bacteria while collecting biological material for diagnostic testing in the laboratory. Medical professionals state that she died of pneumonic plague.

🔸 A quarantine has been declared at the hospital in the city of Shelekhov (Irkutsk region), where she spent three days; all staff and patients undergoing treatment there have been isolated. Everyone who had contact with the deceased has been placed under medical observation.

🔸 According to the Telegram channel "Ranshe Vsekh" (Sooner Than Anyone Else), 189 people are currently in hospital care. Some are exhibiting symptoms of plague, though this does not yet confirm an actual infection.

🔸 Citing Shelekhov residents, the "People of Baikal" project reports that people in protective suits, masks, and gloves are walking the streets. Masks were also distributed in kindergartens. Yesterday evening, a meeting involving heads of law enforcement and administrative agencies took place in Irkutsk. Following this, the publication notes, FSB units began escorting the ambulances used to transport people who had contact with Sh. for medical examinations. 🔸 According to a doctor who spoke with the "People of Baikal" project, the pneumonic form of plague is transmitted from person to person and is highly contagious.

We returned to Staward Gorge where the dog sprained his paw a fortnight ago. The high narrow ridge here bears the ruins of Staward Peel, a stone fort built to defend against marauding Scots in the 14th century. It has a serene view over the gorge and is where we left Rockie's ashes.

The recommended low pass filter to de-bounce a magnetic reed switch on a tipping bucket rain gauge. Seems way out. Those values give a time constant of 1 microsecond - a small reed switch bounces for up to 1 millisecond.
