it's always this at the core. like yes sure tearing down unjust systems *sounds* great but if your energy is all for destruction without any plans or capacity to care for ppl in the aftermath it's helping nobody, just satisfying some urge to see stuff break

I keep thinking of these four shows that aired before the 2016 election and how combined they presaged so much that happened: 1) Scandal 2) Mr Robot 3) UnREAL 4) The Americans

last thing i'll say is take your immediate reaction to the news and log off. right now social media is a frenzy of "political violence is good actually" vs "political violence is bad actually" and approximately zero valuable insight will emerge from the tussle.

Look, you can say a lot about Hogan's legacy: he was racist, he was terrible to his colleagues, he put himself above other people, he firmly believed in the supremacy of white people, he was a bad wrestler, his life was a net negative for society. That's it. That's the post.

If you are too young to remember the Iraq War, you'll hear "no one protested" and "no one knew they were lying." Millions of people knew they were lying and protested. The press not only did not want a record of mass dissent; they did not want a record of mass knowledge of lies.

So many decades of casually branding and dehumanizing "criminals" led us here--you can be as enthusiastic about inhumane sadism as you want as long as you qualify that the recipient is a "horrible criminal", and a *lot* of people will agree with you.

I've been pretty inactive here I realize, and here's the thing: Twitter was a hellhole of brain poison waaaaaaay before it got formally adopted by fascists. A global, semi-anonymous town square is a terrible idea! Town squares should be town-sized, at most!
