Since so much of it is out there at the moment…

I’ve seen the take that rape is “a fate worse than death” a lot. This is usually from well-meaning people who want SA to be taken as seriously as it should be in a society that regularly sacrifices victims at the altars of Men With Bright Futures.

But it’s wrong. And it’s damaging and dangerous for victims to hear. You are not better off dead than raped.

After your assault, you’ll navigate the feelings of betrayal and anger and hurt. You may experience suicidal ideation. You probably will. But you are not better off dead than raped.

There is a whole life you will live after SA. It may be different than the life you once saw stretch out before you, but it’s no less valuable. You will heal and grow and change. You will know more happiness than you could ever imagine from that dark, angry, fearful place you once inhabited.

Your life has beauty and value and it is bigger than what SA took from you.

Rick might even be involved again - parts of the new album from the Strokes were recorded there, and he produced that. Maybe he bought it back from Romanek? Who knows. Exciting that it's accessible to the public again though.

Looks like the Mansion in Laurel Canyon, where the RHCP recorded BSSM and SA (and more) has been turned back into a recording studio: www.instagram.com/p/DVeMtfTDbP... It was sold to director Mark Romanek about a decade ago but clearly he's moved on, and the music has moved back in.

Does the intern they’ve got doing these know they used a remaster and an original pressing, or is that the point? 🤔

Here's something of note from a forum post made (in 2006!) by engineer Ryan Hewitt: a Stadium Arcadium-era track titled "These are the Lines." Working title for a B-side, or the mysterious 38th song from the sessions?

Saw an AI generated reel on insta the other day portraying John Lennon if he’d lived & it was such vile, low intelligence nonsense slop that it made the Paul is dead crowd look like like Mensa members. There’s a lot of negativity around generative-AI but I think we need to be MORE negative.

We all know about the lost BSSM-era song played on that 2002 VH1 doc, right? I tried very amateurly and quickly to strip out the voices from the doc. I think this is just about the clearest version of it yet. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa-Z...

I wonder if another certification is due for BSSM. The latest is 25 years old, pre-streaming and pre a hell of a lot of sales. Might be up to 9x platinum by this point! Maybe for the album's 35th anniversary in September this year.

This also appears to be confirmation that TEENAGER IN LOVE wasn't recorded during the proper album sessions. This document is from the vocal recording, so they got pretty far in the process before being scrapped.
