Not impressed with the three available tracks from Fontaines DC's new album that are available so far. Even less impressed with the line "I could care less" in one of them. FFS!

They were discussing rights and quotas for fishing bluefin tuna on RTE Radio one this morning. Not so much as a hint of why Bluefin Tuna are now so plentiful off the west coast. The irony

Yep. Indeed. They’ve a nefarious option to pause your membership where it will automatically renew in up to three months when you’ve long forgotten about it.

Signed up for @netflix.com when they first launced in Ireland in 2012. Decided yesterday to show them the door. €16.99 is not good value IMO especially as all the other platforms have 4K for that price.

Amongst the people to get away with it was American pilot Ann Wood, serving with the British Air Transport Auxiliary. She'd seen it done before and figured it had looked easy enough. Wood didn't know about tides. Still squeaked through. The ATA weren't in the business of employing duffers.

Ann Wood in ATA uniform. Expected to jump into a range of aircraft at short notice, often without having flown the type before and having only the pilot notes to work from, the top ATA pilots were amongst the best "pure" flyers of the war. The women amongst them had to prove themselves first, but by the end of the war had proved themselves so convincingly that they were flying everything from trainers to high performance fighters to four-engine heavies.

Fun fact: in WW2 so many pilots flew under the Severn Railway Bridge that RAF police were eventually deployed there to take registrations as they went past.

The Severn Railway Bridge near Sharpness, seen at low tide. This may become significant later...

If Trump keeps whining that Ukraine needs a new president, it only proves one thing: Zelenskyy is one of the most honest, decent, and incorruptible presidents in the world today. Ми вистоїмо, москва ляже!

Haven’t tested properly yet. In house getting same as Gomo. Around 20Mbps. Normal for this area.

To be expected given the POPs in London and Amsterdam. Curiously enough, running speedtests is against the AUP! Section F: You may not generate traffic artificially without a genuine attempt to communicate. They get kudos for their short and easy to understand AUP and Fair Usage Policy though!

Just got myself a Lidl Connect SIM card and activated it. Guess they're not quite at 100,000 customers yet!

4 years ago today I set this up in the living room. About 15 minutes later it was banned by Mrs S. Never to be used since. All that effort for nothing. Camera is pointing at a wall😢

There may be some hope then!

Ooohhh. Didn’t see that bit!!

OMG. I just checked. I’m in same situation. My house is on a street which means I’d need planning permission for external insulation. Old stone walls 2 feet thick so insulation might not allow walls to “breathe” and cause condensation inside. FFS!

Ironically there's no Eir/gomo coverage in my local Lidl so if you're going to be trying to use Lidl Connect in Lidl Youghal, you'll be shit out of luck.

Robert Sweetnam @rgsweetnam.zq.ie · 04/10/2026

Lidl Connect is available tomorrow. Unlimited 5G. It's on Eir's network but 1Global handle data. Your traffic will end up going abroad first before coming back to Ireland adding +26ms compared to Eir mobile proper. Goosed has more info in this video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2Uo...

Lidl's €8.99 SIM runs on Eir. So what's the catch?

We have two dogs and two cats and they operate in teams. Each dog has their own cat or each cat has their own dog if you prefer it that way! Each dog hates the other dog's cat and vice versa! Hilarious at times.

Robert Sweetnam @rgsweetnam.zq.ie · 03/10/2026

Saved some post pub pizza last night for breakfast this morning. One cat managed to open the box and dragged the last few slices out on to the floor where it was duly devoured by one of the dogs.

Taken a lot longer than I hoped but finally ditched all but 5 installations of Ubuntu at home. 5 x 24.04 installs left. 30 running Debian 13 and a single solitary Ubuntu 20.04 machine that has no upgrade path for the application that's running on it.

Have only one dimmer switch and it’s in the living room. Decided to just use lamps with smart bulbs instead!! Four lamps use less electricity than one of the four dimmer switches. Also colour changing bulbs too.

If you have an iPhone and block ads at home via pihole or similar, you might start seeing unwanted ads after upgrading to iOS27. Go to your WiFi settings, scroll down and turn off Connectivity Assist. You might need to do this for each of your saved WiFi networks.
