But if I’m being honest, I was only sarcastic about Love Rollercoaster. Point Break is a cinematic masterpiece.

Being sarcastic about them, however, is underrated.

If you get rid of the Red Hot Chili Peppers then you’re also losing out on the surf Nazis from Point Break and their cover of Lover Rollercoaster for Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.

To put it in perspective, if we somehow genuinely stumble twice AND get dealt diabolical refereeing for Spurs away again before New Year (meaning, a repeat of last year's results, with Leicester being the Sheffield-equivalent), we'll STILL be on 88-point form. THAT'S how great we've been thus far.

For anyone curious, here's a comparison of our fixtures thus far with their 2023-34 equivalents. As last year’s first promoted side to host us, Luton away was used as the equivalent for this year’s Ipswich away. 2024-25: 31 pts (2.58 PPG, 98-point form) 2023-24: 27 pts (2.25 PPG, 85-point form)

Not going to lie, I'm not a fan of bot accounts revealing themselves in Twitter-level numbers AND the block feature not forcing them to unfollow you. Please fix this, @support.bsky.team.

I've never had any time for the "we need another center-back" shouts, and I suspect I never will. Having Gomez and Quansah to help with fixture congestion and rotation in general is such a luxury.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
Joe Gomez looked every bit the center-back you would expect from a club making a title charge. All together now: we are lucky to have him. 😉

I… don’t think you can have a clear out on Bluesky. You can block people, but that doesn’t force an unfollow from them.

Absolutely! It’s just… I don’t even recall him saying anything like this back in the summer. He’s had months to think about his assessment… and he still went with it. I mean, full marks for honesty, but my God what a take!

I mean, utterly demoralized United sides loaded with overpaid mercenaries and managed by Solskjær got 2nd, 3rd, and 6th-place. How any ostensibly neutral professional could think this Liverpool would do worse than last year, relative to the competition available is mind-boggling to me.

I rarely have the opportunity to hear him talk about us because I usually watch our matches at the pub with friends—and it’s too loud for punditry post-match. As such, I generally catch him after watching the odd game involving other clubs. I’ve never heard something so baffling from him before.

Robbie Earle of NBC Sports just said he thought Liverpool might finish in the top 6, maybe the top 4-5, before the campaign started. This just isn’t a serious position for a professional pundit.

This wasn’t the most emotional win we’ve had over City, or the most full-throttle. It was, however, our most comprehensive victory over them since Pep took over City. Utter dominance.

Darwin earns the adulation of the Kop with a great challenge against Doku in our penalty area. And then attempts a not really good one at all in City’s half.

Humiliating back heel pass by Jones to start a switch in play, which concludes with him forcing a corner with his shot. Walker has that look of a man who knows an era is likely coming to an end.

“Sacked in the morning, you’re getting sacked in the morning,” sings the Kop. Pep smiles wryly. I’ve been conditioned to not want City—even this edition—to have the ball in the last few minutes. 🤷‍♂️

Kavanagh and Walker arguing over the decision. “Look, Kyle, I don’t like it any more than you do, but you haven’t exactly left me any room to do itherwise, have you?” 2-0!

Now Kavanagh blocks Mac Allister off from getting the ball back in City’s third. It’s getting a bit silly.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
Doku isn’t even that good a player, but he should be an excellent substitution for City right now, precisely because of his mobility. Kavanagh doing his best to get in the way of us playing out the back.

Virgil could’ve had a hat trick. And Mo missed his trademark goal. It is no exaggeration to say that City should easily be losing 4-0, even 5-0 right now. In another universe, Pep quits after this game.

It’s a crying shame that we’re not going into half time at least two goals ahead. I hate the idea that Pep just mihht give them a sense of belief for the second half.

Salah can’t get anything today. Kicked right in front of the linesman in the 45th. Nothing doing. Him getting fouled has literally been City’s only real outlet.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
City have actually been trying to press somewhat for the last 2-3 minutes. Liverpool are just playing around them. Possession has only been lost by ambitious passes or through Kavanagh’s largesse toward City.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
City have had a shot. It’s the 39th minute. Salah has been pulled down the last three times he’s received the ball. Kavanagh doesn’t care.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
Trent’s shot came much, much closer to scoring than I thought. A 2-0 after such a patient buildup will be the best thing Slot could have asked for. We’ve been comprehensively outplaying them. Gravenberch’s foul on Gündoğan is the dangerous moment they’ve had in this spell… and they blew it.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
At the same time, though, you can see how exposed City still are when we get the ball out of our own third. Seemingly every time we do that, we make it to their penalty area.
110
Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
The thing about this score line is that you count on City being out of it for the rest of the game. A cushion of goals would’ve been wonderful. Already you can see City are regaining their composure and their sense of press.

What a start! What a linkup! It’s been coming for a while, and what a deserved goal that was. Complete dominance on and off the ball by us. City have looked so open and—yes—scared. Only way it could’ve been better is if we’d also scored from Virgil’s header.

I just can’t fathom the thought process unless it involves concessions to heads of the regional confederations. As in, they HAD to feature a player or two from CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, and especially from AFC, where Infantino’s buddies have particular pull.

I think that would be a problem if JMS insisted on a serialized approach with 22 episodes per season—because yes, that can cause fatigue to big, GoT-scale audiences. At the same time, I think the core story he set out to tell could’ve been condensed to half that many episodes.

Babylon 5 was so ahead of its time. Even now, it’s prohibitively expensive to make a sci-fi series with production values that works do justice to its later seasons, especially.

I was there, too! I was just lucky to find a couple of websites that do all that work. It helped loads with my peace of mind. 😅 Transfermarkt have a feature where they’ll show you a given player’s record against every club—and then you can see each fixture’s result and their matchday report.

Our record against them with Joe starting at CB is W1 D1 L2, with five goals conceded. One of those losses was a penalty shootout (1-1 at FT). The other was our 3-2 EFL Cup Loss two years ago, with a heavily rotated side. We’ll be fine.

An annual Liverpool tradition: A defender gets injured. Loads of fans stress over Joe Gomez “not being good enough.” Gomez then reminds us he was one half of our league-winning defense, while playing any position in the back four. We all then say how lucky we are to have him. Rinse and repeat.

Not a single Liverpool player was nominated for FIFA’s Best Men XI. But objectively worse players from the Brazilian Serie A, LigaMx, Qatar Stars League, Saudi Pro League, AND the UAE Pro League somehow were. What a sad joke.

And because so many of them were so keen to remind us of how long it took for us to win the league again: For 17 of our 30 barren years, we were the 4th or 5th richest club in England. We largely finished were you’d expect us in a sport so dictated by money. What’s United’s excuse?

I don’t care about United’s “global stature.” They’ve been overpaying for the wrong players, appointing the wrong managers, and playing without an identity for years, while cultivating a culture of mediocrity. Them being level with Bodø/Glimt isn’t a fluke; it should be the expected result.

Φοίβος @rgreeko.bsky.social · 28/11/2024
Forget tribalism for a second. I’m not having any of this “Who are United losing to” talk. Bodø/Glimt are defending champions. Manchester United aren’t even in the top half of the Premier League. They’ve been lucky to be—on average—England’s 5th best side since Ferguson retired.
