Welcome to all our new followers! 💛 We're Reunite Families UK, and we exist for one reason: no one should be kept apart from the people they love because of what they earn. 🧵

"All we want is for families and couples to be together. It's not much to ask." 💔 Our second day at Labour Conference is coming to a close, but first we caught up with Abdul and Leslie, two of our Reunite Families UK members, to hear why they came. 🧵

Out in the sunshine spreading the word ☀️🧡 We caught up with Cassandra, one of our Reunite Families members, who's been handing out flyers and talking to people all day at the Labour Party conference.

Standing outside Labour Conference today, it struck me how many people inside are completely unaware that families are being torn apart by these policies. They'll enjoy their day at the conference, then go home to their families. Meanwhile, thousands of people can't live here in the UK as a family

Woman on a mission 💪 Today our co-founder Caroline is joining members of Reunite Families UK and an amazing coalition of organisations, all coming together to push back against the government's earned settlement proposals. These plans are short-sighted and will hurt families, workers and communities

Nobody warns you about this at freshers' week. 🧵 You're 18, starting uni, and you meet someone who makes everything feel possible. But if they're not British, you may need to earn £29,000 a year just to live here together.

🚨 £5bn. The Home Office made almost £5bn in profit last year from visa, citizenship and immigration fees — more than it gets in corporation tax from energy, gas, water, sewage and hospitality combined. 🧵

The tens of thousands of pounds our members and people across the country must spend just to maintain their status or acquire citizenship isn't just a burden — it blocks integration and thriving, and stands as an impossibly high stumbling block to the economy.

New polling should worry Shabana Mahmood: Only a third of the public agree with her and with the need to apply the "Earned Settlement" reform to migrants already living and working here. The public gets it — families shouldn't be punished retroactively. 🧵

People need both practical guidance and emotional care to get through it. Every pound donated helps us reach someone who's struggling right now — a parent, a child, a family trying to hold things together. You can help us be there for them. 👉 Support the campaign: actionnetwork.org/fundraising/...

850+ people have told the new PM that families shouldn't be kept apart by an immigration system built without them in mind. Help us make this impossible to ignore. Add your name: actionnetwork.org/petitions/te...

We put the Home Office's own numbers to the test. 👀 A spouse visa costs £482 to process — applicants are charged £2,064. That's a 77% profit margin on people trying to stay with the person they love. Summer of Hope funds free legal advice & wellbeing support. 👉 actionnetwork.org/fundraising/...

This summer, we're asking for your help to reunite families. Here's why it matters: Thousands of people in the UK are separated from the person they love — their partner, their child, their parent. Not by choice. Because they can't afford legal advice they need. 🧵 actionnetwork.org/fundraising/...

What if being with the person you love came with a huge price tag? Rebecca is British. David is Ugandan. They've 2 children but live thousands of miles apart Not because they are divorced but because Rebecca, like half the country, doesn’t earn £29,000 — and David’s income doesn’t count

Being a family in the UK — when one of you isn’t from here — comes with a shocking price tag “We’ve spent £21,000 on visas — and we’re the lucky ones.” “One application cost us £8,000.” “It wiped out our house deposit.”

Shocking and yet unsurprising that the latest @jrf-uk.bsky.social UK Poverty found that 1 in 2 children in migrant families were in poverty compared to around 1 in 4 other children. Children are the biggest victims of an extortionate immigration system. No child should grow up knowing poverty.
