Really enjoying this book. House of Bone and Rain had been on my list for a long time, and it's every bit as good as I'd hoped.
My hand holding a hardcover copy of House of Bone and rain by Gabino Iglesias. The title is printed over a green sky with a house beneath between palm trees, with the author's name in white over purple ground with a shadowy skull.

Looking at my laptop near the end of my work day (this was Friday, right?), I realized that my list of recently used folders did not include the one containing my creative writing project. I shall rectify this situation immediately.

Four chapters drafted means I'm at least acquainted with my protagonist. Time for me to figure out who the hell he really is. Writing on another calm autumn morning. Parenting and teaching tasks to follow, but not yet.

I've been writing the same goshdarn chapter for a month, but tonight I finally finished the initial rough edit of it. I hereby declare it "drafted."

Poking at this chapter I'm nearly done writing, listening to 16 work on Creston's saxophone sonata in the other room. Peaceful evening time.

Proud dad moment of my weekend: went to the local theater with my wife and our teenagers to see Buddy, and 16 lost it at this moment (image on right) and said "Night of the Hunter! Night of the Hunter!" Parenting win. #filmsky

I taught the first class of my Creative Writing Workshop this morning. Eleven high school students, their desks pulled into a circle, talking about a book they admire and what they hope to write this semester, sure made me feel better about the world for a little while. #teacher

I was assigned to read Invisible Cities in college and understood it not a lick, as my old annotations attest. But I'm older now and have lived a little more, at least, and what a captivating and wonderful text it is.
