It could be worse. You could live here. At least one of the tabletop games companies I'm keen on will now deliver anywhere in the world EXCEPT the UK.

It was a no-brainer, given that he arrived a few months after the other two as a sort of rescue (unsalable, the breeder asked us to take him as "you're good parents"). We were torn between that and Miles and Ivan for the first two, and we're both glad we went the way we did. They're lovely boys x

Clearly 7 cannot be used. To balance 3s, 3 & 6 must be on one side, 9 on on the other. To balance 5s, 5 and 10 must be on opposite sides. Once we have three numbers on one side, the fourth is obviously determined, so we have at most two possibilities: 3×6×5×8 = 9×10×2×4 3×6×10×4 = 9×5×2×8 Nice.

How much do I love these books?Picture 1: the brothers Moon (lying) and Stone. Picture 2, their unrelated, adopted, slightly disabled brother Chime.

And, in my old life as an academic, I had the job (for one year only) of answering the crackpot mail. It was eye-opening.

Yeah. My brother-in-law, lovely guy, convinced he's cracked a theory of everything in physics and the shape of the universe, absolutely no qualifications, background, or (I'm sorry to say, as a mathematician) clue.

This is one of the things I'm enjoying about Person Of Interest, actually. I think John has been shot more times than he's got fingers at this point, and I'm still a series from the end.

If we can deal harshly with people peacefully protesting genocide, we can deal with these people. We are simply choosing not to.

I mostly remember that I'd got up specially to watch a motorcycle race, and was furious that it was now not being broadcast because somebody was, newsworthily, still dead.

Stone using the penthouse unconventionally, Moon more normally. Bonus of a Chime in a bucket.

i do not think "populism" is a very useful word when people use it to mean both "right wing white nationalists" and "left wingers who want higher taxes on rich people and medicare for all"

Tokens are still being sold at way below cost. Everybody in the business is haemorrhaging money. These are facts about the world. Bye now.

They're getting much more expensive because every LLM company on earth is selling at far below cost and losing money faster than a drunk in Vegas.

From Will Self of all people, an absolutely clinical deconstruction of Kathleen Stock. Nice to know that some writers can see through some of the GC crowd.
J'accuse Kathleen Stock of helping convert an allegation of academic misconduct into the story of 'Cambridge's DEI darling', thereby making Arday's institutional and racial symbolism integral to the accusation. There's no need to label Stock transphobic: she's done it herself, whatever the nonsense she spouts about 'gender criticality'; just as there's no need to demonstrate that her personal agon is that she hasn't been allowed to peddle her own prejudices in return for status and prestige: that, too, she has amply confirmed through her writings and public statements. She, and her supporters clearly feel they are winning: I wonder if they know what that will look like, or how high the body-count will have to go before they're satisfied.

I simply cannot understand this response. The programme was unequivocally bad and inaccurate, and you think you learned from this misinformation, and this doesn't bother you? You WANT to be misinformed and stupider than you were before you watched it?

Since people seemed to enjoy seeing Chime, here are Moon (lying) and Stone, the slightly older brothers. (They're ten months.) Plus all three in their tree.
Two ragdoll kittens looking into the camera. Three ragdoll kittens in an absurdly large cat tree.

We live in a tree-rich street, and we used to have constant multi-insect presence all summer, and then wasps looking to hibernate in autumn. This summer we've had ONE cranefly.

Ours were raised using one at the breeder's, so we bought an identical one. The moment they arrived here, they decided they were drinking from the dog's bowl instead. The dog is, sadly, gone; the big steel water bowl lives on.

Good to have rediscovered an old hobby, and I've enjoyed learning the new-to-me FTO (the octahedron). I won't ever be quick, but that's ok.
A box with 2x2 up to 5x5 "Rubik's" cubes, a Skewb, and an FTO. At the side, a Megaminx (dodecahedron) and Pyraminx (tetrahedron). Nerdvana.

The only time I use any of the Google voice-control systems is in the car, where they nerfed Assistant a while ago. This means that Android Auto now works less well than it did two years ago, since Gemini is utter crap by comparison.

Unfortunately, polling suggests it's a significant chunk of the population. If you look at surveyed views on trans people at either ends of the last decade, it's got far worse.

Unfortunately, just like other tiny gaggles of repellent but media-supported crackpots we are all too well aware of, they are successfully shifting the relevant Overton window.

As somebody who likes cars, etc, this puzzles the fuck out of me. If, after you get the first few points (which is itself a red flag), you aren't capable of controlling yourself until they expire, you're unsafe. And driving disqualified should be a no-questions life-changing custodial sentence.

Once again for those at the back: ‘Don’t speak ill of the dead’ is about your great aunt Elsie, who liked a long gin with a short tonic at elevenses, and blew your inheritance money betting on the horses. Speaking ill of absolute monsters is a moral obligation, actually.
