I really should get out of my comfort zone and comment more! OSAS has been a blast to read every week. The last page really made me GASP out loud. "so THAT'S how it happens to Corette huh? 👀"

It's that time of year again! It's only obligatory of me to sketch Yellow-Green Team sporting their beach wear for some fun in the sun. #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ #splatoonmanga

Pencil sketch of the members of the Yellow-Green Team from the Splatoon manga (coroika), enjoying some fun in the sun while wearing beach attire.

Tomodachi has eaten up most of my time haha. After a long while, the members of Yellow-Green Team finally moved into a house together! The two Miis on Rider's left are Shellby and Hollis, who are the in game children belonging to Bamboo and Blazer (Bamboo and Blazer are a married couple in my run).

A screenshot from Tomodachi Life Living The Dream showing a group of 6 Miis standing outside a house smiling happily. The Miis are based the Yellow-Green Team, which are Inkling characters from the Splatoon Manga (coroika). From right to left is: Stealth, Blazer, Bamboo, Rider, Hollis, Shellby.

Blazer and Bamboo got married in my Tomodachi run!! For the big day Bamboo wore a white tuxedo while Blazer was in a wedding dress. 🥺❤️ I may try redrawing this at some point as it's too cute of an idea to pass up. #coroika #コロイカ

Thank you! It's always a blast trying to come up with ways on how to get the hair to work just so in certain designs. I've found using stretch velvet sewed to fleece allows for the tentacles to get a natural curve shape due to how the two fabrics react to one another.

Decided to create another plushie and this time chose to make Wave. He's the Agent 8 stand-in for my Splatoon OC's story lines and is also Arkin's younger brother. Base pattern is by @dollphinwing.bsky.social #splatoon #splatoonart #octoling #octolingoc #splatoonoc #splatoonocs #handmadeplush

Blazer and Bamboo wearing a pair of beautiful kimonos. Perhaps the girls are attending a celebration or festival together? #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

Rough pencil sketch of two female Inklings from the Splatoon manga (Coroika) dressed in kimonos. Each girl has her hair tentacles tied up and decorated with an accessory.

Couple sketches that focus on practising various angles and perspectives I've found tricky in the past. Featuring Avia, one of my Splatoon ocs! #splatoon #splatoonart #splatoonocs #splatoonoc #octoling #octolingoc

Rough and quick pencil sketch of a female Octoling drawn from a low angle perspective. The character has an almost intimidating appeal from the way she looks down upon the viewer.

A rough and quick pencil sketch that is highly unfinished in some areas showing a female Octoling drawn from a high angle perspective. The character has her arms folded across her chest in a calm and casual manner.

Sketching and working on art is a relaxing and calming experience for me, but this current art block has me so stressed out. It's an awful feeling. I just want to draw my characters without struggling or having the image come out off looking 😭

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

Full colored version of a sketch I had previously posted a long while ago. Decided it deserved a color variant to help up my skills. I guess this too is also my first colored artwork upload of the year as well! #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

A full colored artwork done with traditional mediums depicting Bamboo and Stealth from Coroika (Splatoon Manga) sharing a gentle moment together. Stealth is laying in Bamboo's arms and looking up at her lovingly.

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 13/02/2026

Stealth as a Mersquid, for one of my AU's where Yellow-Green Team are merfolk. It's also his design for a reverse AU of my regular Mermaid AU. In this reverse MerAU, Bamboo is the Grizzco worker instead, and Stealth is the mer. #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

Pencil sketch of an Inkling who appears as a merfolk. The upper part of his body is that of an Inkling, while from the torso down, he has the tail and fins of a fish. The fish portions as well as fins, scales etc, are loosely inspired by the design of a Coelacanth.

After having read this month's Coroika issue, it's inspired me with many ideas I'd like to sketch out...

I don't understand the hate towards casuals like??? I understand that some players don't necessarily want to improve, they want to relax with friends, or like playing certain weapons. And that's ok! Why do we have to police what people can and can't play and how they play the game differently?

110

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 28/01/2026

Used to be a competitive player. I was mostly active during Splat 2 comp's heyday and the scene is totally not what it use to be sadly. I ended up stepping away due to how the comp scene become generally unwelcoming and very unfriendly. Especially towards players with disabilities.

Arkin Vulgaris. A male Octoling who shot up in the soldier ranks to Elite status (which is rare among males). Wielding dual Octoshots, he is a formidable foe on the battlefield. He is Wave's older brother and serves as the main antagonist to my storyline. #splatoon #splatoonart #splatoonoc #octoling

Pencil sketch of a male Octoling with a large mohawk, holding a pair of Octoshots. He has a daunting and intimidating aura about him. A doodle in the corner of the page reveals a concept sketch for the Octospike, a Great Octo Weapon he pilots.

Tavian and Avia sharing a moment together, while Snappy looks on in admiration for his two friends. He knows how much they love one another deeply! Nice for once to draw a fluffy scene between my two OCs. #splatoon #splatoonart #splatoonocs

Avia, a female Octoling and Tavian, a male Inkling share an embrace with one another. Snappy, a Smallfry stands in the background with his hands clasped, looking on in admiration. You can tell how much Tavian and Avia love one another by their facial expressions.

Having art block is no fun when you just have to let it run it's course. Though I do think this time it's a case of I sketched a lot last month to the point I ended up improving in many areas. Now areas I'm weak at or didn't improve much have to catch up to match the sudden jump in skills.

010

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 01/01/2026

Thank you! Improving on clothing was a goal I had in 2025 since Splatoon is so focused on fashion. I'm glad these pieces in particular are able to showcase just that haha.

To end off 2025, the yearly art summary is here with a few of my favourite highlights for each month. Eagerly looking towards 2026 for further art improvement and adventures! #splatoonart #splatoon #splatoonoc #coroika #handmadeplushies #2025artsummary

An art summary for the year of 2025 where each month is represented by a piece of art the artist created. The summary layout is divided into two horizontal columns with 6 boxes each. Each box represents a month. Top row contains January to June, the bottom row contains July to December. Three of the boxes contain full colored art pieces, 6 contain pencil sketches, and three contain plushies. All the art represented in the boxes is Splatoon related, either the artists own OCs or characters from the manga.

Holiday Blazer and Bamboo. Blazer seems to be the type that will go the extra mile and dress up her S clip for the occasion. Bamboo carved the snowflake ornament herself to hang on her hat rather than a tree. #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

Pencil sketch of two female Inklings: Blazer and Bamboo from the Splatoon manga (coroika). Both are dressed for the holidays. Blazer is in a turtleneck with bells tied around her tentacles. Her S hair clip is decorated up like a reindeer. Bamboo wears a scarf and is in a large sweater, a snowflake ornament hangs from her hat.

Sometimes I do silly doodles like this in the corners of my sketchbook to fill up space, or have characters commenting on a piece I'm currently sketching. #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

Simple pencil doodle of the Yellow Green team. Rider looks on with complete surprise as Bamboo kisses Stealth on the cheek, to which Stealth smiles and hold a thumbs up. A little heart appears between Stealth and Bamboo. Blazer smugly grins at Rider, an arrow pointing at her with the words 'Has known since day 1" written above her.

I want to keep pushing myself to improve my art in the upcoming year, and I would love to create another full illustration with the same amount of attention to detail and environment lighting as that Squidmas one.

010

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 04/12/2025

The Squidmas themed Blazer pic is by far my most favorite piece I've done all year. Unfortunately did not get much time this year to do more full illustrations. Yet I think that piece shows off my improvement the best. I went above and beyond my skills to create something beautiful.

Started in November, this was intended to be completed around December to fit with the holiday theme. However, it's taken me roughly 3 months to finish only because I underestimated how long the background would take to render. Based on a fanfic I wrote. #splatoon #splatoonart #coroika #コロイカ

A full color illustration which depicts Blazer in a cozy cabin. She's sitting in front of a brick fireplace and looking out towards the viewer. She's wearing a winter wardrobe that is color themed around her gear; A long sleeved cream colored sweater, a green plaid skirt with a white fuzzy trim, dark leggings and a pair of white kneesocks. Wrapped around her tentacles are strings of silver and gold bells of varying sizes. The 'S' clip upon her head has also been decorated up, sporting a red nose and a pair of reindeer antlers. A roaring fire is in the fireplace just behind Blazer. Attached to the fireplace mantle are three stockings, each with a name in Inklish and an applique weapon representing the owner. In order the stockings have: A .52 Gal Deco, a Heavy Splatling, and the last has two Dynamos- a gold and black-crossed over each other like a coat of arms emblem. The cabin background is mostly dark while the fireplace illuminates nearer objects in a yellowish orange light.

The conversation between Deep Cut about their new allies are as followed: Frye: I'm glad Violet is on our side! Big Man: Ay! Ay! (I can only imagine if she wasn't!) Shiver: ...Does Turk have a license to to drive that?!

A Splatoon Raiders inspired sketch. Featuring my married couple OCs, Turk and Violet Delight, who join Deep Cut on Spiralite Island for adventure, danger and...shenanigans? Yeah, let's go with that! #splatoon #splatoonart #splatoonocs

Pencil sketch of a plus sized, female octoling with curled tentacles sitting smugly with a wrench raised in her hand. Behind, her Inkling husband in swim form pilots a mech with scorpion like attributes. A smaller sketch of Deep Cut are in the bottom left hand corner conversing about their new allies. The conversation is written as followed:
Frye: I'm glad Violet is on our side!

Big Man: Ay! Ay! (I can only imagine if she wasn't!)

Shiver: ...Does Turk have a license to to drive that?!

One hand it sucks as I have nothing to review back on my game play for this season to improve but on the other hand I'm thankful it was just the replays and not something more important. Would have been extremely upset if my 4 years of grind had been wiped out in seconds.

000

Rex @rexsketches.bsky.social · 21/11/2025

I nearly had a moment of sheer panic and thought all my Splat 3 data had been corrupted and lost forever. I was uploading a match replay when it bugged out and corrupted. Luckily I was able to restore and rescue all my data, progress, etc, however all my replays for the season are gone for good :c

Wishing I could dress up my Yellow-Green Team plushies in holiday themed wear to match the winter season. Although I can put a little string of bells around Blazer's tentacles, so I guess that works good enough 👀
