It picks a spot inside the skull about 70% of the way in, then effectively fires a ray at an angle each direction. It works really nicely on the dinosaurs with a "normal" skull on the prologue island 😅

👁️👁️ I had a problem with my dinosaur models. None of them had eyes! I didn't want to go back into every one and paint the eyes on manually, so why not write a script to do it for me? Oh man turns out there's a very good reason not to write a script for that. #indiedev #gamedev #godot #lowpoly

🗿💡 Every adventure game legally requires one light-beam #puzzle, so here is ours. Rotate the stone obelisks to guide the beam through the island and hit the target. Zero tutorial text, just emoji dialogue and a satisfying *clunk* when the angles connect. #indiedev #gamedev #godot #lowpoly

Except Capsules cast a capsule-shaped shadow, and not having feet felt really weird. So now you play as a headless T. rex... with a shadow and feet. #gamedev #godot #lowpoly #dinosaurs

The proof of concept dig site which hides all the artefacts underneath. It's a bit plain - a single colour for the dig site, overlapping shadows on the top and bottom bars, and a boring default Godot button.

A much improved next iteration of the dig site. The dig site itself gets multiple colours that makes it look like sand being swept in the wind. There are small creatures like butterflies and bees around the area. The outside of the dig site is much improved decoration wise, with a dirt area, grass, flowers, and trees. The Deep Time Institute museum is also visible in a raised area to the right. The dig site is mid-dig, with a T. rex skull fully excavated and the tail section mostly uncovered. The Dig site is labeled with the sign "The Crater". A stamina bar gets across the mechanic of stamina for digging. But there's still that ugly default Godot button.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I've changed the mouth shape, swapped to a "more expressionate" UV sphere for the eyes, added a bit more detail and that "slightly cross the eyes" trick really helped too.
