annerch a chariad at vy anhrydyddusaf gar "greetings and affection to my most honourable kinsman" A note between friends? Written in a margin of the Black Book of Carmarthen (NLW Peniarth MS 1) in the 14th/15th century, erased probably in the 17th, recovered in the 21st. #WorldLetterWritingDay
A drawing of two people looking at each other in the bottom of a page (NLW Peniarth MS 1, fol. 39v), with text written above them. The drawing and text was erased and subsequently recovered with multispectral imaging.

Western Isles versus Outer Hebrides: Is there a preference locally for one over the other? Or is another name more usual?

The CofE/CiW may have done their best to wimpify Jesus but anyone reading the gospels will see a radical reformer who would probably be called a socialist or even an anarchist today and hated by those who trumpet his name the loudest (that, at least, would be mutual)

If they were led astray by bad teaching and now see the error they were led into, and are truly repentant, they can get common or garden absolution from a regular (non-schismatic) priest and be accepted back into the fold. If they still hold to SSPX, it's trickier

The driver might die but they know the risks. These are not areas where people walk late at night

Rex Caprorum @rexcaprorum.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
I'm assuming 1) After closing time, and 2) Only on unclassified rural roads that nobody walks at that time of night. You might also add 3) Only pubs known to be quiet with no history of trouble in the past N years. It happens now and the police are happy to ignore it so why not formalise it?

I may be a shade biased but the way SDUC wa caused to fail while Meddwyn and his cronies collected bonus after bonus, honour after honour leaves me seriously regretting my commitment to non-violence

SDUC was the biggest employer in the Lampeter area by quite some margin. It's difficult to imagine an Ag/Hort FE college employing (or attracting) anywhere near the same numbers

Rex Caprorum @rexcaprorum.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I'm suggesting that on some quiet, unclassified rural roads (NOT in town or on bigger roads) it might be appropriate to raise the BA levels only for driving, or at least for police to ignore most of the time. Drive your car off the road, your problem. Into somebody? Maybe prison

Rex Caprorum @rexcaprorum.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Take all rural crime seriously but reduce penalties for driving home from the pub along quiet rural roads. Rural public transport. Connect the tiny villages to towns, towns to each other. Reduce taxi fares but state pays drivers the difference? Not sure whether that would work

Obviously we say ta-ta to England and annnexe Kernow, govern until a proper government is elected. Phase out bilingualism over, say ten years. It hasn't worked, was never going to work, was never meant to work. Keep a few English forms about until end Y15 but Y6 on, only on request (PoD Y10 on).

I don't know. I may have misinterpreted it but I got the clear impression that the company had contributed to the damage to the area. If that's accurate, then I think banning them from operating on NT land would be entirely proportionate

It looks as though I'll have a few days in Kernow at the end of the month. Where should I definitely go for: History/archaeology/folk history/folklore Birds and other wildlife Good walking Affordable food Good ale & cider? Would any friends between here and there appreciate a visit/want to meet?

Thinking about my birthday (end of November) and wondering whether any friends might fancy a bit of a road trip to Kernow and SW Englandshire. I've found plausible (i.e. very basic but affordable) accommodation in Tewynblustri/Newquay but I'd be happy to upgrade within reason. Happy to visit also

There are plenty of younger phobes, that's undeniable, but on the whole, they do tend to be older and more socially conservative. That's not to say that 'all X are Y and all Y are X': that would be too simplistic and we know it's not true, but there is a broad overlap between the two

Wales cannot afford this UK nonsense. We're expected to subsidise England to the tune of billions a year (see above, see water, energy, Crossrail...) but ask for a penny of it back and we're 'subsidy junkies'. How does that work, exactly?

Public ownership is part of the solution. Stopping the waste by repairing/replacing & maintaining infrastructure is crucial, and paying a fair price for imported water. Welsh water is syphoned into England for less than it costs Dŵr Cymru to maintain the infrastructure. Colonialism lives
