A few days ago, there was a post that was reposted and quoted on my feed several times about how, while designers might be fascinated by systems, the obvious truth is that players buy TTRPGs for the fantasy. And that is true, the fantasy sells the game. But it's the system that makes it stick.

Because TTRPGs, as a medium, are as ideally suited to sociological storytelling as novels are to psychological storytelling — and because after a few centuries of psychological storytelling being in ascendance, it’s sociological storytelling that really has the potential to change the world.

TTRPGs are the most effective way to generate the seeds of an authentic oral tradition. The stories spring up naturally, creating a common corpus for everyone who was there, knitting us together into a culture all our own.

“Jason, why do you insist on packing so much content into these adventures?” Because I hate high owl quotient adventures! That’s the whole reason I buy an adventure, so that I can buy a picture of an owl and just run with it. If I wanted to do all the work I’d just do it myself!

“But what’s ‘revolutionary’ about that?” Because when you look past the generalizations and abstractions, you see how complex and nuanced the world is. You see the personhood in everyone. You see that diversity is truly the definition of strength and homogeneity is always a delusion.

Public opinion will shape the fate of Rekken for better or worse. Will hate-mongers or corrupt fools sway the public to the ruin of all, or will you be able to convince the people that the only livable future lies in solidarity and mutual aid? In "Dance of Death," you'll have to play to find out.
The Public Opinion in Rekken sheet, showing a six-stage linear map across the top of the page, and then a grid that shows the eight districts of the city across the top and rows for each of the major opinions affecting the game (with space to add up to five of your own).

In "The Dance of Death," you’ll risk your life to enter a city under quarantine as a deadly disease rages to face environmental injustice and ignorant mobs and ultimately decide if you will restore the land or leave the city to its fate.
A spread of items that come with the adventure: a poster map of the city of Rekken with an inset map of the eight districts and how they connect to one another as a point crawl, and three pages of the adventure, including the first page, the page with the map of the city, and an internal page with two random tables in its right hand column.
