Here's our dwarf Wurtz avocado with one little avocado just starting. 5+ years in and this little tree is still not doing too well. Gets covered in flowers. Drops leaves & fruit. Not sure why. Our Shepard Avocado fruits & does really well. Are there any ideas that might help our little Wurtz? 🇦🇺🥑

This spring we're planting 30 bottlebrush outside our laneway side fence. The run's about 40m x 1m. The variety is Callistemon Slim. The goal is a bottlebrush hedge that's about 2m tall, 1-1.2m deep, & that attracts bees. This little one is super keen. Flowering 7 days after planting out. 🇦🇺🐨🐝

It's warming up quick down here in Australia. Our avocado trees are in full flower. The small one's a dwarf Wurtz. The larger a Shepard. The Wurtz is yet to hold on to fruit. Fingers crossed for this year! The Shepard rocks. Big avocados that stay green when ripe & store well, even when cut. 🇦🇺 🥑

This spring we're planting a bottle brush hedge along our laneway fence line. 30 Callistemon SLIM and also 6 Leptospurmum Aphrodite for the front garden. The SLIM bottle brush can be kept to a 60cm width & grows up to 3m high. Love the clouds reflecting in the wet decking boards. 🇦🇺 🐨

A few weeks back we wondered if we were growing Romanesco broccoli, aka fractal broccoli, or cauliflower. Happy to confirm we are growing Romanesco broccoli. It's not growing 100% true to type, the colour's not quiet right, & it's so warm that it's bolting. But, there's a few fractals! 🥦

These are golden podded peas. Super sweet. Great in a stir-fry, fresh, or lightly steamed. Seeds keep well too. All our peas this year are from seed collected at the end of last winter. Nice. 🫛

Garden upgrades. 2025 saw some goodies. 6m3 of rhyolite paths, 6m3 of raised front garden beds, new fruiting fig, passionfruit. Yada yada. Also, one big mistake. FWIW do not build boxes you can not access. This year a 3m x 3m bed is turning into an extended U shape. More soon. #BetterGardens 🇦🇺 🐨

A lil' productive today. Here's our first iceberg lettuce from our solar powered, hydroponic, vertical garden experiment. 500g aka 1/2kg. Not too shabby. It would have been bigger but we've been trimming the lettuce rather than harvesting until now. Looks like the hydroponic setup is worth it. 🥬

Another quick trip down to Sydney today. Picked up my P Bass and Strat. Expertly setup by the wonderful Piers Crocker. Both are playing really nice. Intonation is spot on. Here's Piers' late 1920s early 1930s portable, hand-wound record player in his workshop. Fun times. 🎸
