I can't help but think all beavers feel this way in regards to human activities. They had 7 million years of peaceful existence...then these mentally ill primates show up...

Oh that is so neat! I have seen big pond lilies in our beav ponds, but never watershield. Looks like great forage for them- and makes for some great photos. Thanks for sharing! 🥰

Some exemplary #beaverart. I followed a beaver trail through a dense thicket and emerged here in this little flooded opening surrounding this large ash tree. Tooth on ash wood. Anonymous

One of the big take-aways from my field research has been how much beaver contribute to structural diversity in their habitat, and how important that complexity is to their survival. Old trees, young trees, chewed trees, windblown trees! Impenetrable beaver thickets! Wide open ponds!

I can't stop thinking about it! By this evidence alone we can affirm that beaver modified wetlands have been a consistent, reliable resource for millions of years- of course all these other species evolved to depend on them. Beaver are the ultimate keystone species!

Hmm, maybe a younger beav with an old injury? Beav tails are pretty large even when they are young. You can see how wide and flat the tail is at the base. Nutria have rat like tails this:

🙄 This is what happens when you drain wetlands and build on top of them. The subsurface water doesn't leave, the beaver don't leave. It's lose/lose for everyone. If your only solution is an annual killing spree instead of coexistence, it's time for a new management plan. Wetlands>potato chips!

That's a beaver! Sometimes they sit on their tails while they eat. Nutria have bright white whiskers and flatter faces

I went down the beaver evolution rodent hole, and there is something I need you to know: Beavers, in their present size, form, & behavior evolved 7 MILLION years ago, in the Miocene. That is how long they have been enriching ecosystems. Homo Sapiens were not even a twinkle in evolution's eye.
In the beginning...there was beaver

While no doubt the impacts of beaver heading north are multi-layered, accusing flooding & digging of increasing climate change acceleration takes some real gall. You know what overwhelmingly causes climate change? HUMANS. Leave the beavs alone & solve the real problems! 5/5 tinyurl.com/cc92mdyd

Causes of climate change
Burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests and farming livestock are increasingly influencing the climate and the earth’s temperature.

Calling an influx of beaver north "overpopulation" is pure bullshit. Estimates of pre-colonial beaver pop. are as high as 400 million individuals. European arrival & the fur trade decimated the pop. to as low as 100,000 in the wild by late 1800s. Who is the real invader? 4/5 tinyurl.com/mvvd3m35
