We were both deeply saddened to hear of Ann’s death. She was a dear friend to us and our family. Although we disagreed on a great many political matters, I never doubted her decency, her humanity, or her dedication as an MP. She was, quite simply, a very good person, and she will be greatly missed.

For the record, Jack has made suitable amends for his indiscretion earlier today, when he announced my age to the world. A very lovely dinner at home with my darling. We do have our disagreements, of course, but we mend them quickly. No marriage is perfect, appearances — perhaps — notwithstanding.
