The troll tree, Stadsbygd Prestegard Trøndelag, Norway Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky. ~ Kahlil Gabran #ColorADay #GreenSat #Green #Trees #Treelovers #Woodland #RainyDay #Atmospheric #Nature #Landscape #Photography #NaturePhotography #ECK #EastCoastKin #PhotographersOfBluesky
A photo in bright forest greens of an ancient moss-covered ash growing on the grounds of the Stadsbygd Prestegard (Stadsbygd Vicarage). If you look closely, you can imagine the faces of the trolls coming out of the trunk and branches. Stadsbygd comes from Old Norse, Staðr, meaning place or abode, and Byggð, meaning settlement, or country community. I was lucky enough to recently stay at the Vicarage and was shown this beautiful, ancient ask tree and snapped this photo on a perfect atmospheric rainy. Stadsbygd is a scenic, fertile agricultural village and parish located in the municipality of Indre Fosen in Trøndelag, Norway.

It’s apparently a well-known site, and even appears on the Google maps! I tried to find out when the house (built in the late 1800’s/early 1900s) was deserted, by the only source I could find said that the trees had already started to grow on the roof 25 years ago.

I'm surprised myself. Apparently, the house was built in the old Scandinavian style with a sod/turf roof. I'm also thinking it was built in old farm-style with over-dimensioned building materials.

Bjørvika, Oslo While sitting in an outside café, I suddenly felt something bump up against my hand. Looking down, it was a sparrow snacking on my snack. - Photo courtesy of my wife. #FlyDay #Birds #Urbangaze #CityScape #StreetPhotography #Photography #EastCoastKin #PhotographersOfBluesky #Norway
A photo taken by my wife while we were sitting in an outdoor café in the Bjørvika district of Oslo. As we sat eating a snack and chatting, I suddenly felt something lightly bump against my hand. Looking down, I saw to my surprise a cheeky little sparrow hovering in front of my knee, nipping bites out of my bread. It would grab a mouthful or two, fly away to a nearby tree, and then return for more.

During the two summers I did fieldwork for my degree, I lived in a deeply secluded Norwegian forest. No electricity, no running water, total isolation. It was here, in the green quietude, that I first truly experienced the subtle living spirit of the forest. #ForestFriday #Trees #Spirit #Awareness
A photograph of the cabin I lived in, located in the Solholm Fjell nature reserve in Southern Norway. No electricity, water was fetched from a nearby stream, food was prepared on a portable camping stove. Everything had to be be backpacked in on a forest trail. I would drive down from Oslo on Sunday evening, staying at the cabin while doing my field work, rain or shine, and then drive back to Oslo on the following Friday evening. I did this from May to September for approximately two years. By the end of the week, I rarely had any desire to leave the forest and return to the city.A photograph of myself wearing my trusty hoody and a scarf on my head, trying to identify some tiny species of moss using a powerful scientific magnifying glass. What couldn’t be identified in the field was bagged and taken back to the lab for microscopic identification. My research was centered mostly on forest moss ecology and distribution. A photograph from the Solholm Fjell nature reserve not far from the field site where I did my studies, featuring a small pond and a river leading down from a large outcrop of mostly bare rock. The Solholm Fjell nature reserve was chosen for my thesis due to the fact that there had only been negligible human activity there in the last hundred years, i.e. no habitation, farming, or logging, making it as close to virgin forest as one can find in Norway.

I was a stonemason in my younger days and later received a degree in ecology focusing on forest bryophytes. Your lovely photo of this stunning moss and lichen-covered stone wall is music to my eyes. That it’s done in the dry-stack manner, without mortar, makes it even more remarkable. ☺️
