rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 17hMandatory nuance, I love a good diagetic tutorial, but if I'm excited to sit down and play a new game for 1 hour, I wanna be playing the video game by the end of that hour. Most complaints I see are people who love big complex games not wanting to slog through the first few hours every playthrough. 000

rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 17hA thought I've been batting around the past couple of days is whether the recent issue of games taking "too damn long to let you start playing the game" is partially due to the extinction of game manuals. 100

rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Recently saw someone play through this part. It lasts way longer than I remembered, and I was like "Oh, I understand why so many people say this is the best game of all time." Felt the same way watching the stairs sequence in FF7 for the first time. 000
rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 03/08/2026On restraining some parts of a design while exaggerating others, I remember the designer of Bayonetta 2 thought she was too covered up, so added the cutouts in the back to balance it. I think about this all the time, especially w/ sexy designs. When cutouts are just added everywhere it looks sloppy. 010
rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 03/08/2026In general how the human features and animal features combine in a final silhouette is well considered here. I really like the gothic lolita bat. You wrote blond, but I saw her with light purple hair. In a full body version you could play with the wings and how they look with different capes. 100
rethy @rethy.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I liked the short hair look. It's a bit unexpected on a furry character, but I think that helps him stand out. Same with the Lion with the shorter beard. I think where there's a balance of going big and pulling back on features there are stronger character designs and a clearer sense of personality. 100
