A new way to monitor the network in the next version, v057. Built from feedback we got in 2021. Slowly working our way through the backlog. At this rate, we'll be done by ... 2040 ;)

Rethink DNS+ Firewall Android app showing the new revamped "RPN" UI in the upcoming version, v057. In the screenshot, RPN is connected to 3 locations, Boston, Singapore, & Toronto, at once. It is running in multi-hop mode. The footer sports it's playful mascot, a Dolphin. The header shows a real-time heatmap of past 24h connections (grouped by 10m per slot in the heatmap) that went through RPN servers.

The Rethink project got off to a front-foot start after Matthew Prince, CEO at Cloudflare, publicly offered to hire (?) us, 3 jobless, ambitious friends to work on it, merely based on the ideas we laid out on Hacker News (in April 2019), and one that we didn’t even know would materialize, if at all. In a short while, even after being rejected by Y Combinator for the 2020 winter batch (we’re in good company), we found several (Indian) VCs (rather, analysts cosplaying as general partners) beating down our door to meet with us… Needless to say, this was an avoidable excercise in frustration. Still, I was impressionable back then, had too many magical thoughts about being the next Rajoshi Ghosh, the next Sid Sijbrandij, the next Avery Pennarun, & went to all humiliating meetings expecting something different from each. Once bitten, twice shy? Not me.

You are right about messy code generation at times, but that's not what we predominantly use Copilot for. In fact, we don't pay (nor can we afford to pay) for any of the premium features. Our use of Copilot (free tier) is for code completion and code review capabilities, predominantly.

RethinkDNS provides a better implementation of this usable by GrapheneOS users while still supporting one or more chained WireGuard VPNs at the same time. DNS-based filtering frequently causes compatibility issues and is very opaque to users. Browser-based filtering works far better.
