JCPenney at The Mall at Tuttle Crossing has been plagued with roof leaks since a hail storm back in the Spring. The storms yesterday have made an existing problem worse. Even areas that aren't tarped are leaking like a sieve. These employees don't get paid enough to deal with these conditions.

I picked up a directory of Holyoke Mall, sometime from the 80s, in Kingston, NY Here is the current view, taken last Sunday. #thenandnow #malls #architecture #vintage #massachusetts #bringitback
A mall directory for Holyoke Mall, from the 80s. Shown on the cover, is a picture of center court looking down into the basement food court. A large dome skylight is overhead, and G. Fox department store is visible in the background. The present day view of the same spot. G. Fox is long gone, having been replaced with multiple tenants since, the longest serving being Target, on the upper level. The basement food court is still there, but drab and dull after multiple remodels. Architecturally, the remainder of the mall remains the same minus some minor updates and new flooring.

A belated happy birthday to two Taubman gems, both opened 50 years ago on March 2nd, 1976. Fairlane Town Center heads towards a murky future under mall slumlord Kohan, and Lakeside is closed awaiting demolition. #deadmalls #malls #photography #detroit #taubman #architecture #atrium #fountains
The north central court of Fairlane Town Center. A network of ramps and stairs connect the levels, and the court is capped by a disco bulb lined Octa-Loft elevator. The mall's majestic fountain used to be at the bottom of the frame, but was removed in 2013 for the contemporary searing you see here. Since this photo was taken, the wooden handrails have been painted a matte black. The central court of Lakeside Mall, showing the 2020 refurbished fountain in full glory, which dates to the mall's opening. While the elevator is out of commission, and various storefronts have changed over the years, this scene remains largely unchanged from the mall's opening. Upon its closure, Lakeside was the last Taubman mall with 90% of its original features intact.

MacArthur's Parked. Closing June 30th, 2026 to pave way for redevelopment by the City of Norfolk. This was the last mall built by Taubman Centers using their trademark geometric, space age interior design language. Link in comments. #deadmalls #photography #architecture #taubman #virginia
Looking down a hallway towards a dead end, showing the mall's interior profile. Taubman's signature interior is present, consisting of angles, geometric patrerns and plant life, topped by skylights allowing plenty of natural light. The mall's central atrium, featuring a set of three elevators and a fountain at the base. A pattern of jets shoot arcs of water at set intervals. Angular plaster details make up the majority of the design language, contrasted with chome pillars and a grand row of clear skylights, offset with colored panels throughout. Fancier versions of Taubman's signature conversational seating enclosures grace the hallways and anchor courts. In addition to lights for the plant and flower beds, tablesude lamps are provided for shoppers needing to sit and relax.
