Breaking news! Yesterday, Reps Miller (R-WV), Horsford (D-NV), Salazar (R-FL), and Pappas (D-NH) introduced the Stronger Start for Working Families Act, which would lower the earned-income threshold for the refundable Child Tax Credit. Read more: miller.house.gov/media/press-...
“RESULTS and its national network of advocates applaud Congresswoman Miller(R-WV) and Congressman Horsford (D-NV) for their bipartisan leadership in introducing the Stronger Start for Working Families Act. This legislation will improve the Child Tax Credit (CTC) so that it better rewards the hard work that millions of families employed in low to moderate wage jobs do to support their families. Congress must follow their lead and ensure expanded Child Tax Credit benefits reach families who need them the most." – Joanne Carter, Executive Director, RESULTS

RESULTS is disappointed to see the House pass a Farm Bill that fails to support families facing hunger. The Senate must do better.
RESULTS is disappointed to see the House pass a Farm Bill that fails to support families facing hunger. In the last year, more than 3 million people have lost access to SNAP benefits, and millions more will join them when states are forced to take on greater costs. The Senate must do better. We call on the Senate to reject any Farm Bill that does not give every state equal time to protect families from these devastating cuts.

We are appalled by what has happened in Minnesota in recent weeks, where expanded federal immigration enforcement has escalated into deadly violence. ICE and CBP agents have destabilized and terrorized immigrant communities, traumatized children and families, and attacked bystanders documenting abuse. Amid peaceful protests, agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. While these tragedies cannot be undone, Congress can act to ensure they don’t happen again.

This Black History Month, we are spotlighting Black leadership in advocacy. Hear from Brazil Jefferson, RESULTS advocate and Expert on Poverty, about who inspires her.
Cassandra Welchlin is a strong black woman, advocate, and leader that inspires me. Her work shows that she cares for her community in Mississippi and for low-income women. She has able to help mothers that were lacking economic security and knew that the system was the problem and wanted to do something about it. She works as the Executive Director of Mississippi’s Black Women’s Roundtable to advance racial and gender equitable policies for low-income women, strengthen her community, and make it better for women to thrive.I believe policy is a great way for changes and seeing a black woman like this one stand up for better equity is powerful and uplifting.

"Black leadership in advocacy isn't just important – it's necessary. We bring the lived experiences, resilience, and wisdom of our communities into the fight for justice." – Candace B., RESULTS Advocate and Expert on Poverty #blackhistorymonth
Black leadership in advocacy isn’t just important—it’s necessary. We bring the lived experiences, resilience, and wisdom of our communities into the fight for justice.

Fannie Lou Hamer fearlessly spoke truth to power when she said, “Nobody is free until everybody is free.” She didn’t just demand change—she called us to walk this freedom road together: “I don’t want you back there... I want you to say, ‘I’m with you.’ And we’ll go up this freedom road together.” That’s the kind of advocacy I believe in—standing together, rising together, and making sure no voice is left behind. John Lewis taught us to get into good trouble, and I take that to heart. Justice doesn’t come to those who wait—it comes to those who fight for it.

I advocate as a VOICE for those who have been silenced, for those who will come after us, and for the FREEDOM we have always deserved—then, now, and forevermore.

– Candace Baker, Indianapolis, IN
