One thing I learned from Roe v Wade is that conservatives believe women were never supposed to have freedom and choices. Seeing us become punished by the environments of our own liberation feels satisfying to them. It's like they're herding us back into complacency with our own trauma.

It doesn't have to be an organized conspiracy. Just an attitude that makes conservatives in power justify & protect the abusers, while convincing themselves the women shouldn't even be there at all. The same with workplaces & the military: where they also feel women shouldn't be protected.

Original Sin is a big part of their worldview. And the belief that sexual trauma is a form of God's punishment towards the "original sinners." In this twisted up narrative: they view the victims as the sinners and the rapists as the appropriate or justifiable punishers of sin. So women deserve it.

When I was doing my abortion rights marches, I learned there was a giddy pleasure that conservatives got in seeing women suffer. We would say: women are dying from miscarriages. Women can't afford children. Women are getting pregnant from rapists. You should see them salivate over our pain.

Sometimes I think about how conservatives don't want young women to be educated & the single easiest way to do that is to allow a third of college-aged women to be traumatized in freshman year by the predatory young men conservatives want to be educated. They keep protecting predators for a reason.

A couple weeks ago someone said if he hacked into a government system, he'd be put in prison. But when OpenAI does it, they send an "apology letter" & there are no consequences. Our 2-tier justice systems are trash. They enable the development of psychopaths who learn the laws don't apply to them.

Being forced to live with toxic people growing up can really make you treasure your own space as an adult. Fortunately my siblings & I have all simultaneously decided we'd rather spend our holidays with our respective dog families than get together with each other - & we're all happier that way. 😆

I spent the 90s in the mountains of Montana. We had 5 VHS tapes & PBS: i.e. Wishbone & Reading Rainbow. Very isolated. Sure, we had to have cereal with powdered milk. But otherwise, it was great. Nature, reading books, our horses, & my imagination were the only sources of stimulation.

Good news: people in Texas are registering to vote. 🗳 🤠 Bad news: the Republicans are not processing them. An "unidentified problem" created a massive backlog in tens of thousands of registrations. In one county, 45,000 registrations have been backlogged. Hopeful. But suspicious. ☹️

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- County election offices throughout Texas are scrambling to process a massive backlog of voter registration applications stemming from an error at the state level, a headache that is hitting just as they are preparing for voting to begin in the midterm elections
The problem, which officials in the
Republican-controlled state have not publicly defined. This also could have disenfranchised people who wanted to vote in the state's March primary but whose registration applications were never processed, local election officials said during a news conference Wednesday
'This is really out of left field. Knowing that this one element of (state) applications didn't come through, and we had no insight on it," said Chris McGinn, executive director of the Texas Association of County Election Officials
The size of the backlog statewide hasn't been determined. but the association said it is in the tens of thousands for some of the state's most populous counties. In Bexar County, which includes San Antonio, the election office received about 45,000 backlogged voter registratior applications.
