my pc has been relocated and as it turns out, my current setup makes it really annoying to do game dev on it (i am using a tv) i suppose this is enforced backlog week

wondering how funny it'd be to bait and switch my game with an rpg maker 2003 one

Been fiddling with a Godot shader that takes a first person scene and converts it into 8x8 NES tiles. This is either a really cool idea for a game or just ugly as shit lmao

it seems like it requires scripts? github.com/dacap/export... might be what you want

for those new here go play void stranger, read umineko, and play weird niche indie games i do not use ai in any of my works, even coding sorry but ai is stinky and boring i enjoy problem solving and am uninterested in this debate

who wouldve thought the best way to get interactions here on bsky.app is to post Hot Takes™️ if only that translated into people being interested in my game instead

you arent wrong, but him saying he doesnt know any artists made me 💀 its actually what prompted my og tweet; wish i had quoted it but i didnt want to pester him (lol) since i figured he'd have a bunch of hate going on unfortunately ive been blocked so i cannot find the tweet myself

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
thats wrong and not what I'm saying (but I can see why thats implied) imo you should know your users so you can work w/ them, but you also have your own boundaries. otherwise, how is your software going to improve without feedback? his surprise to me, shows a blindspot which is common in SEng.

more or less! the problem is, if your only interaction with llms is image gen that takes your job then it colors everything else the abuse is obv not good, anyone hurling abuse at him is in the wrong (why does this need to be said). but part of it is not understand his audience (and bsky sucking)
020
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
fwiw i wrote this for an audience of like 2 people maybe to see it since itd been worming in my head if i knew it was going to spur so much activity i would've been clearer as to my thoughts. or just shut up lol, people have Strong Opinions about this on both sides
191
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
i do not think it has to be stated that abuse is bad, because that in itself should be self evident. what i find interesting is the lack of awareness around his users which is a problem in the software industry at large. the surprising thing to me is *his* surprise does that excuse the abuse? no

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
i mean i have artist friends who hate this stuff with a passion because llms were first billed as a way to replace them (when its hard enough as-is), some people were psychos about this fact, and then the externalities came out theres just an eternal bad taste, its understandable imo

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
they dont understand that page or why its impressive, they just see ai is used and equate it to image gen anyone who has been in a creative space couldve told you the outcome of that post (because its happened before) like its understandable why but this is not a new issue, which is my point
250
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
re:paint.net specifically, my point was around how he was surprised and didn't expect the reaction he got. which, to me, is a symptom of a wider issue that we see constantly in this industry which is why i made my post because its an interesting phenomenon for me as a dev!
020
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
my point was a lot more general than people seem to be taking it, because there's *plenty* of programs where updates get released and the people who use it Fucking Hate It esp in the paid world i dont think saying you should consider the people who use your stuff should be a hot take
210
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
i do think its important for any long-term project to understand who is using it and their issues not so they can bully you around and tell you what to do, but because feedback is important for improving software that doesnt mean you cant do what you want, but a more rounded view of a problem helps
110
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
hi! im the whiny little bully if i expected more than like 2 people to see that post i wouldve worded it better honestly i actually agree with you on most counts. foss creators arent beholden to their users and can do what they want. it is, in most cases, a passion project.

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
the key for me is trying to understand why someone would want or dislike something, because that can lead you to novel solutions you wouldnt have otherwise decided on you can do a "fuck the users that arent me" thing but also understand *why& a user wants something, which helps make it better
120
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
yeah i cant either! its difficult and honestly not fun for some people. i do think its something we should encourage people at least try more of. even just mingling around helps! though, i do think "I don't know a single artist and I've been making an Art Program for 20 years" is WILD
210
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
it didnt!! i just saw your tweet and went "oh fuck oh god did it really look like that" i just wanted to clarify just in case
040
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
he doesnt *need* to, nor is anyone required to. its a free program after all but i think it makes better software; my comment was more general than whatever ai policy you have (i.e. think of how many adobe updates that people hate) (i also dont think doing everything thats asked is good either fyi)
240
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
responding because uhhh i dont think the abuse or hate is justified. i feel like that is self-evident however i find it weird that youd dedicate 20 years of your life to development and not be interested in the people who use it, even from a "how can i improve this" pov. dude said he knew no artists

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
well, we are now going back to your regularly scheduled shitposting and No Game Updates i will see you in a month

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
i dont really expect a response, nor do i think i deserve one. i wasnt expecting you to even show up lol (hi to that other guy too!). this is a space for me to repost stuff, shitpost, and post my indie game i honestly only posted my og comment because its something ive noticed a lot in software

Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
fuck, its not even like foss hasnt had brushes with this - linus' stance on ai comes from a massive thread triggered by using llm tools in development. there's a lot of foss projects that got forked because of llm integration or allowing llm code. so, yeah, im amazed this was a blind spot at all
210
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
i appreciate your efforts to make foss, its a passion project at the end of the day, and it largely goes unappreciated. but: you have to be deliberately living under a rock to not realise that llm usage is a hot topic. artists were the first to sue llm companies over copyright infringement. (4/5)
110
Resharc @reshar.cc · 03/09/2026
its very easy for them to do this, because our users are other developers and businesses. your users are artists. there is a cultural gap between artists and software developers, and its something you have to deal with due to your users, you cant ignore that without issues like this (3/5)

my manager goes out and talks to people who use our services. hes gotten on my case for releasing a feature that a user, who he was chatting to, found an issue with my cto goes to conferences to build connections and talk to people, and has a strong relationship w/ our clients (2/5)

i was not expecting you to appear here, thats fun im a software engineer in my day job, so i get it. i dont like talking about my day job for obv reasons but allow me to hold your ear captive for a sec i am of the opinion that as a developer, part of our job to figure out what our users want. (1/5)

Resharc @reshar.cc · 02/09/2026
like, ignore the ai usage for a sec - rick brewster said he wasnt expecting the pushback after 2 years of artists publicly and loudly being anti-llm. it does not take very long for you to stumble across such an opinion how the hell did you misjudge your userbase this bad?

the whole paint.net debacle is an interesting microcosm of a wider problem in software engineering, where developers seem to have no interaction with their users or put any effort into understanding them, and end up being surprised when they piss them off
paint.net
Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing
Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows.
