The pandemic accord, therefore, must include recovery if we’re serious about resilience and being better prepared for the next one. Read our opinion piece 'Recovery is missing in the pandemic treaty' below.

As we wrote in BMJ last year, recovery is a vital part of pandemic preparedness, yet it is still missing from the accord. Proper pandemic preparedness requires accountability, protecting the vulnerable, and rebuilding trust.

This April, the world has one more chance to finalize a pandemic accord that could shape global health security for decades. But we can’t just plan for a next pandemic. We must also reckon with this one. But recovery is still missing from the draft accord. 🧵

Long Covid SOS @longcovidsos.bsky.social · 15/03/2025
Today, we honour Ondine. Every post we share on #LongCovidAwarenessDay is dedicated to our co-founder, friend, inspiration & relentless advocate, Ondine Sherwood. Her passion, determination, & unwavering fight for recognition & support have left an indelible mark on the world.
A teal gradient background fades into black at the edges. White text in an serif font reads:

Today, we honour Ondine.

Every post we share this Long Covid Awareness Day is dedicated to our co-founder, friend, inspiration, and relentless advocate, Ondine Sherwood. Her passion, determination, and unwavering fight for recognition and support have left an indelible mark on the Long Covid community.

Without her, Long Covid would be far less recognised. Without her, countless people would not have found the solidarity, hope, and strength they needed. And without her, our world feels immeasurably smaller.

We miss you Ondine, so very much.

Today, and always, we continue her fight. For Ondine. For all of us.

In the bottom right corner, the Long Covid SOS logo appears in white.

The treaty focuses on health system recovery—a vital piece—but what about societal recovery? Trust in science has eroded, inequities widened, and economic impacts linger. Ignoring these issues undermines resilience and preparedness for future pandemics.

While @who.int declared the COVID-19 emergency over, the threat isn't gone. We're navigating recovery without robust guidance, leaving vulnerable groups unprotected. Millions face #longCOVID, persistent risks, and systemic challenges in accessing care. Recovery is urgent.
