I've been feeling pretty down. When I found #RStats, I kinda fell in love, and decided to become as much of an expeRt as I could be. In the age of AI, that's not a good idea; why make the bots program in a language they don't really understand? #dataBS

My first career in my 20s was in IT and I loved it so much bc it called for such varied knowledge. It's how I found data analysis. Anyway sometimes I accidentally say the right terminology and then my IT person thinks I know things and starts escalating their jargon and I have to say no no no..

So I did some math and migrating our private shinyapps.io app with hundreds of users ("external guests") to Connect Cloud will give us a new *monthly* price of $10,000 in 2029. I know non profits and smaller operations will find this really difficult. Just kind of stunned rn! #shiny #rstats #posit

Almost every week, we see a liberal writer condemn “wokeism” or the “woke. . .” They are attacking a caricature, a perversion, a distortion of a historically Black concept that MAGA propagandists first distorted. These people are not serious thinkers.

The title is a little pointed, but I am very serious here. Academics, medical researchers, and other organisations should not collect data on birth sex. It is rarely relevant, and it almost always leads to privacy violations for transgender people. Please share. I would like people to read this one.

I was sitting here trying to figure out what all this abundance talk is about, like how does it make any sense because I've heard it in passing before and omg no. An abundance of no thank you. Let's do rent caps, a living wage, healthcare for all, and keep safety and environmental regulations.

It's pretty wild to promote employment *as an outcome* for homeless programs, especially for those who rely on disability benefits. Employment has always been one of many positive side effects of being housed, but encouraging case managers to push employment over benefits is irresponsible!

I don't love being pressured to use AI as if my hesitation is that "it's hard to try something new." Like that's not.. the problem. And I do use AI sometimes (Shiny Assistant, for example.) But I have problems with it in a human rights kind of way, and I'm not a fan of these companies. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm working on updating my website, copying old blog posts I did from 2013-2014 into it, from before I was using R. I had the right ideas (mostly) but just felt bound to using the tools I was given.

Someone asked me my profession today. I feel like 'data analyst' carries a certain threat level to it that I don't like. I used to feel like it's 'I do puzzles and then explain them' whereas now I'm like 'I promise I'm using data collected [mostly] ethically for public benefit [for now]'

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored. That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.

Incredible news! Montana’s Supreme Court just affirmed that the state’s gender affirming care ban is likely unconstitutional. This makes the state the first state Supreme Court to rule that trans medical care is protected. This applies REGARDLESS of what the US Supreme Court does.
targets, the District Court reasonably concluded that the balance of the equities tips toward
preliminary relief pending full consideration of the merits. Its analysis of the last two
preliminary injunction factors was not arbitrary or unreasonable. The court did not
manifestly abuse its discretion, and its injunction was not overbroad.
156 Finally, both parties have submitted notices of supplemental authority, citing recent
cases considering challenges to various laws regarding gender-affirming care. Without
exception, the additional authority pertains to claims grounded in the equal protection
clause or otherwise based on alleged unlawful discrimination. Some of the authorities also
reference new developments in research and evidence that was not part of the record
presented to the District Court in the preliminary injunction proceedings. Because, on the
record here, the District Court's conclusions on Montana's express privacy protections are
sufficient to uphold its preliminary injunction, we affirm on that basis. The parties will
have the opportunity during the merits proceeding for full development of the record, where their experts may offer insight on any new research, and for briefing on the current case law relative to their claims.
CONCLUSION
157 The District Court made no error of law and did not manifestly abuse its discretion.
We affirm its grant of a preliminary injunction on the basis of Plaintiffs' right to privacy claim. The case will proceed to trial, at which point the District Court will finally resolve the disputed facts and issue a final determination on the constitutional issues presented.
