For too long, the cost of higher education has been out of reach for many. My colleagues and I have introduced a bill package to provide students with some much-needed relief. When we invest in education, we strengthen our workforce, our economy & the future of our state.

Grocery prices, energy, healthcare, and the cost of essential goods have risen, and Michiganders are working tirelessly just to afford the basics. House Democrats are making investments to lower costs, strengthen the economy, boost small businesses, and put more money in the pockets of hardworking..

In an age where technology quickly outpaces our laws, legislators must stand up for people. I am proud to be the sponsor of the Identity, Consent, Ownership, and Name Rights Act. This legislation ensures individuals have ownership rights to the use of their name, likeness, voice, and image.

Emergencies can bring out the best in our communities, with folks coming together to support one another. But families can also be exposed to unfair price increases on the necessities they depend on. I introduced legislation to protect Michiganders when they are at their most vulnerable.
A quote graphic from Michigan State Representative Jason Hoskins. Next to a picture of the Rep. speaking on the House floor, his quote reads, “No one should be forced to pay inflated prices for essentials in the middle of a crisis. Price gouging during emergencies undermines fairness, public trust, and basic humanity."

Your home should be a place to relax. I introduced a bill to make MI's vehicle noise laws more consistent, giving law enforcement clearer standards to enforce existing laws without targeting responsible drivers. You deserve to enjoy your neighborhoods.

The Supreme Court has turned back the clock on voting rights by 61 years, making it harder for you to have your voice heard. By raising the bar to prove discrimination, the Court has diluted the voices of communities of color. This is not what democracy looks like.

Today’s SCOTUS decision did not make conversion “therapy” safe. It just made it harder to protect our youth from exploitation and harm. The science is clear: these practices are linked to higher rates of depression, trauma, anxiety, and suicide.

A statement that reads "Hoskins Condems ICE Agents for Violence in Minneapolis

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., January 26, 2026 — Just weeks after federal immigration agents in Minneapolis killed an unarmed American citizen in Renee Good, this weekend, we watched as ICE killed Alex Pretti in the same area.

No matter where you stand on immigration policy, no one should accept a country where government agents operate with this kind of cruelty and impunity, illegally detaining people, terrorizing communities, and using deadly force against citizens.

America was founded on the idea that government answers to the people, not the other way around. When government becomes an oppressor, we have both a right and a responsibility to respond. And when speaking out is met with violence, something fundamental in our democracy has been broken.

This cannot become normal.

These shameful actions demand transparency, accountability, and an immediate end to unchecked federal aggression. Our freedoms and our democracy depend on it."

When House Republicans stripped away $645M in funding that was already promised to communities across MI, it was an overreach of power. Unilaterally deciding to go back on budget funding is not how democracy works. I'm grateful MI's Attorney General issued her opinion, calling it unconstitutional.

The House Republican budget cuts health care, nutrition assistance & public safety. When people in our neighborhoods aren't taken care of, they can't thrive & neither can our communities. I will continue to advocate for a strong budget that supports MI.
Hoskins Rejects GOP Budget, Calls for Responsible Plan to Protect Families
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 29, 2025 — Earlier this week, House Republicans advanced House Bill 4706, an omnibus budget that makes deep reductions to housing, economic development, and other core services that communities rely on. Standing against these cuts, state Rep. Jason Hoskins (D-Southfield) issued the following statement:
“House Republicans’ budget makes sweeping reductions across critical areas of state government. I oppose it because it devastates the very services that Michigan families and communities depend on.
“The plan reduces support for health care, nutrition assistance, and maternal and infant health programs, leaving vulnerable residents without the care they need. It cuts funding for public safety, including state police positions, and undermines programs that protect neighborhoods. It also scales back investments in housing, workforce development, and economic growth. These are the very foundations of a strong and fair society, and our duty is to strengthen them, not tear them down.
“These choices also raise serious concerns for civil rights. When funding for food, health care, housing, and public safety is withdrawn, the burden falls heaviest on those already facing barriers — seniors, children, low-income families, and communities of color. Equal access to safety, health, and opportunity is a matter of basic rights, and this budget moves Michigan in the wrong direction.
“I believe our state budget should strengthen the foundations of health, safety, and economic security. I will continue working toward a responsible plan that protects these essential services and gives Michigan families the support they deserve.”
