As always there are caveats. I was primarily speaking to my field of expertise (physiology/biochemistry). I've followed the issues of reproducibility in the psychology/behavior field and it appears that a lot of that can be attributed to investigator ambitions (similar to funding drive).

Fudging may be eliminating an "outlier" sample, running a study with n=3 and stopping because the results confirm a hypothesis, or leaving out results that don't support the story. Usually, results are more complicated than the original hypothesis.

The "reproducibility crisis" in science is a result of extremely limited research funding that drives people to fudge their data to get the next paper/grant. It's largely a human problem not animal husbandry, expired chemicals, or poorly written methods. Fire away.

The SBIR program has not been renewed by Congress and therefore THERE ARE NO SBIR applications at NIH or elsewhere. NIH can't even issue "noncompeting continuation awards for existing projects until the SBIR/STTR program is reauthorized." America is giving up on small business and Science.

This is an average inflation rate of 3.6%. 1950-1975 (2.4%), 1975-2000 (5.5%), 2000-2025 (3%). This devaluation of the USD is primarily due to excess inflation in the 80s.

Quit confounding those in administrative positions with "leadership". It is possible that administrators (In academia read as Provost, Dean, Department Heads) lead, but in my experience it is much more likely that they are just not going to make waves. This makes them bad leaders.

Yes, I'm a white able bodied male. That is not something to create shame. The message chain has nothing to do with race, sex, or disability.

Did anything in your posts have to do with race or disability? This message chain is rediculous. You go after a fake enemy (professors as a entity) then attack the one person who engaged telling them they are too white and able bodied to understand. Goodbye

The scenario being described is not accurately portraying any professor I've ever met. We assign grades based on what was earned.

Ben Renquist and Renquist Lab @renquistlab.bsky.social · 31/10/2025
Your message suggests that faculty assign grades on something other than knowledge. Hard classes are not an attempt to lower GPAs or put students in their place, but instead, focused on ensuring that knowledge is gained. I'd encourage introspection.

Legend David Baltimore died yesterday. He understood the way things should work: "the real contribution of MIT is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It takes ideas seriously, but the people are relatively informal. They are not self-aggrandizing the way academics can be."

To be clear, we tried to work with them. They assumed we were the issue so we humored them when they asked us to show that we could get a virus to work (inject a CAG GFP encoding AAV). After showing we weren't the issue they refused to stand behind their product and provide working virus.

For all my science followers, we ordered an AAV from @vectorbuilder.bsky.social. They delivered an AAV that didn't induce expression and refuse to provide working virus. My advice, find another company to make your AAVs.

We disagree on the message. It's fine. I don't want to repeat falsehoods created to score political points. These are transgenic mice aimed at understanding the role of hormones vs. Chromosomes in sex differences that affect human health.

This isn't transgender. As scientists, we shouldn't adopt misleading words used by politicians.

Transgenic is not the same as transgender. Scientists are making transgenic (transfer of genes) not transgender mice. We do this to learn about the function of a gene.
