I know someone who has converted their Google phone to an untraceable phone by removing the Google operating system. I haven't quite gotten to the point where I will do that, but I do like knowing that is an option. We don't have to accept AI's intrusion into our lives if we don't want to.

Let me clarify what I meant - Blender is better than the latest version of 3D Studio Max *that I had used* as an animator. I don't know what the current version of 3D Studio Max is like.

I haven't given up Photoshop yet, because if I do, I will lose my grandfathered monthly price, but I'm getting close to letting that go, too.

Yes. I could. I don't have to give up a tool I refuse to use in the first place. I'm already giving up software and websites that I have used for 30+ years because artificial agents have been implemented into them. I'm doing fine without them.

I haven't heard of Powell's. I'm not sure there is one in the Seattle area. Salem is wonderful, BTW. I have family who used to live there. I would love to move to Oregon. It's one of my favorite states. We travel there every couple of years or so and have discussed retiring there.

I wouldn't be surprised if she wants the hardback. She collects hardbacks and has turned her room into a miniature library. Having an employee discount is her main motivation for working at a bookstore.

Last year I made a mistake. I bought two calendars without verifying that they were illustrated by real artists. This year I decided to buy my calendar early to ensure I had one designed by a real artist. I looked through 3 calendar racks, and most didn't have an artist credit. Buy slow art. #art
The top right corner of a calendar sleeve. The text reads "Soul in Bloom 2027 Calendar by Suzanne Allard". The background is grey, and the image has painted florals in shades of green, peach and Pyrrol Scarlett.

Gonna check out this guide. Painting miniatures is fun. Photographing them is not. I have quite a few miniatures to photograph, but gave up due to frustration. I have spent a lot more than 2 minutes trying to photograph them. My phone and my camera will focus on a spot but the rest will be blurry.

I recommend it. I have 8 botanical/nature watercolor themed books that I am slowly painting through. Each in a different style. This is one of my favorites and aligns the closest with my personal art style. I'm a mixed media artist, and prefer acrylic paints, but watercolor is fun and relaxing.

I painted these Fiddlehead Ferns yesterday. My colors are not the same as the author's because I do not own the 8 colors she recommends in her book. I am trying to mix my own colors using the Daniel Smith Essential Watercolor Mixing set, which includes warm and cool tone primary colors. 🎨
An illustration of three fiddlehead ferns that are slightly unrolled. The ferns are outlined with a black Micron pen and painted in shades of green and yellow.

It's that time of year where I read more #books and create #art. I am enjoying painting inspiration in my sketchbook by working through "Watercolor in Nature" by Rosalie Haizlett.📚 #booksky
The bookcover of an illustration guide titled "Watercolor in Nature" by nature illustrator Rosalie Haizlett. The cover is green and has illustrations around the title. The illustrations include an Imperial Moth, Fly Agaric mushrooms, a frog, and a land snail. The extra text reads: "Paint Woodland Wildlife and Botanicals with 20 Beginner-Friendly Projects".

I find it interesting that he states that "there will be more people using Adobe". Will they? Maybe non-artists might, if their computer is powerful enough. This artist, who has been an Adobe user for three decades is on the verge of cancelling Adobe because AI features have bloated the software.

No, but in a strange way, yes. Two years ago I left most social media platforms, pushed MAGA types out of my life, cancelled the use of many products and services that enrich self-serving billionaires, and I am so much happier to have reduced their impact on my life.

We were told not to have any water features over the septic system, so I thought we couldn't install it again. Fortunately, the herb bed is not above the septic system - it's the perfect place for the miniature pond. Autumn was my mom's favorite season. Timing of installation completion is perfect.

🌱 In 2020, after my mom passed, the first #garden project that I built was this waterfall box for a small memory pond. Two+ years ago, I was required to remove it to make space for a new septic system. I recently realized it would fit in my herb bed, so I reinstalled it. #Zone8b #bloomscrolling
A small round pond nestled beneath a tree in front of a wooden fence. There is a cedar planter box that holds white mums and a waterfall spillway. The pond water is recirculating through the planter box. A female head-shaped planter sits on top of the planter box. It was a gift given to me from my daughter, on the first Mother's Day after my mother passed. The head planter is planted with succulents. A large green lemon balm plant is growing in front of the pond.

I remember a major airline ran an art contest and the winner would be paid $$$. Nobody else was given anything. Before entering, I read the fine print and ALL entries became the property of the airline. Of course I didn't enter, but thousands of people did, and the airline got a lot of free artwork.

Renee Clark @reneeclark.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Art/writing/photography contests are another scam, especially the contests that require payment to enter. But, even if payment isn't required, the contest could be scamming creatives for free work.

I can't help but wonder if the Mitch McConnell situation is just one of the ways they're planning to cheat the election system. If he remains missing until after the election, my understanding is they can bypass elections and pick his replacement. I may be wrong about how that would work though.

I think product quality plays a role. I remember, in the 80s, we could go to Nordstrom and buy high quality clothing. Seamstresses would size pants and skirts to custom fit. The last time I walked around Seattle's Nordstrom I recall thinking the product was cheap fast fashion - haven't been back.

Could you use the type that sits inside on the floor and a hose vents out the window? We use hard insulation board (thick purple styrofoam) to fill the open space in the window. We cut a hole in the insulation board the size of the vent pipe and pushed the vent pipe in to hold it.

This was fun, and not the least bit surprising. Somehow my Washingtonian son talks like a midwesterner. This quiz is based on a dialect study from Harvard. How do you talk? mydialect.us
A map of the United States that shows colors in the shades of red, cream and shades of blue. Red is strongest in the Pacific Northwest. Blue is strongest along the East Coast.

The text on the map reads:
Your dialect map
Redder areas talk more like you; bluer areas least.
You talk most like someone from Washington - about 59% of your answers match a typical resident.

The title above the map reads: Mydialect - Standard
There is a key that has the words "Least like you" next to the color blue and "Most like you" next to the color red.

She was a hero. I was in High School. The loss of the Challenger was devastating to students. Having a teacher on board was relatable. Her ability to become an astronaut helped us dream that we, too, could reach for the stars.

🌱 I could probably post photos from our visit to The Buchart Gardens for months, but I should get back to posting photos from mine. Anyhoo - look at these walls in what I believe they call the Italian #garden. Simply gorgeous. I wish I could keep my baskets looking that beautiful. #bloomscrolling
A greyish-green building with white lattice work and a large lattice arch in front. The lattice is made in a square style. There are beautiful window boxes above that hold yellow and burgundy colored flowers. Flower baskets hang below the window boxes and they are filled with red, orange and yellow flowers. The plants in beds on the ground are purple, with a scattering of red, white and yellow flowers. The photo was taken on the evening of August 22, 2026.

Please be vocal about not using AI. We have to normalize it. No "I'm not going to say that because it should be assumed. I'm not going to give them this". We don't have time for that shit ideological shit right now. NOW is the time to capitalize on waning favorability. Ppl want human made

If you're referring to AI, I understand the frustration. I have been spending more and more time offline than online because of it. I'm also getting tired of people being excited about what "they" can do with AI. It's not them doing it. It's them benefitting from the theft of other creatives.

Have you ever seen a killer whale fly? I was blessed to spend time with my family in Victoria BC this past week. If you've never been there, Victoria is a beautiful city with lots of activities for tourists.
