Given the large number of unidentifiable bodies, there could be many Russian soldiers among them. Russia doesn't care anyhow.

No. The Russian problem is that many of their cracking towers have been destroyed. So the can go on producing diesel and gasoline by destillation, but that leaves large amounts of heavy oil that should be fed to cracking installations elsewhere: i.e. a transport problem. 2/2

According to Ukraine's estimates Russian refining capacity has gone down by 45%. Western estimates vary between 25-40% Diesel specifically is down by 30%, gasoline by 20% but that is based on data from June 2025 compared to June 2026. Is that all? 1/2

Is this relevant to predicting Vladimir Putin's present behaviour? Yes, it is. People tend to continue doing what they always did. Putin set up sabotage in the west during the late eighties and he does the same thing nowadays. Specifically, back in the eighties? 3/4

Putin has sworn his time as a KGB officer in Dresden was uneventful. There’s a lot of reason to doubt that claim.

We know however that the upward 'bump' around 2010 (starting in 2000) in US military spending had to do with the war on terror, Iraq, Afghanistan and we know that this spending was real and substantial. But yes, the DOD is being overcharged by US defence contractors.

Discussion is about whether survival time after signing up is 3 weeks, or only 2. That has to do mainly with travel time and their 2 days of basic training. Once actually on the front line, their average survival time is: 1.46 minutes (= 1 minute and 28 seconds) 2/2

On Russian survival More than 30 000 Russian soldiers p/month get hit so badly on the frontline that they either die or cannot continue to fight. There are (30.5*24*60)=43920 minutes in a month. So, Russian soldiers have 1.46 minutes of being exposed before being taken out. 1/

The shadow fleet consists of aging vessels lacks protective double hulls around their bunker tanks (containing heavy fuel oil and diesel). These are highly vulnerable to ruptures and fires in the event of military strikes. Fires may well extend to damage the engine room.

René Duba 🅿️ @reneduba.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Why does Ukraine attack the bridge and/or engine room of a Shadow Fleet tanker? The engine is the most valuable part of these ships. A damaged hull can still be repaired if the damage is limited, but without a functioning engine, the ship is scrapped.
