The progressive left is inside a slow shift from preserving things in amber to creating a more dynamic world but the growing pains are clearly going to be really tough. I am heartened by what I am seeing from people like Mamdani who pair helping people with growing the community.

Because the business community has more allegiance to the economic system than any nation or province. They see themselves as citizens of international capital. It is why they threaten to move so fast when anyone suggests better wealth equality.

I find have a reflexive tendency to dismiss it's use even if I know it is useful (and sometimes incredible). Best I can figure is that because I like the anti-AI people more than the pro-AI people. I want to align with a social community I think are cooler and better people.

I strongly disagree with most of this. You want to blame economics by drawing parallels to the rust belt and the feeling of being left behind. But that doesn't apply here. Alberta has the highest incomes in Canada. I grew up here. The grievances are absurd and based more in misogyny than reality.

This is AI. This is a popular filter going around. I have seen several of this clip with different people inserted in.

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

What's happening in Alberta is even more batshit than I ever thought. Danielle Smith is a dangerous psychopath, and the AB separatist movement largely exists because COVID broke far-right brains, and is led by Christo-fascist religious white nationalists, relying on dark money. 2/n

Its a combination of the vibes being generally bad, essentials like homes being way higher, the constant scam economy, feeling nickel and dimed through subscriptions, Seeing extravagant wealth through our screens, and generally having more easily available knowledge from other people.

When I was unemployed and looking for work, I tried to see if the city had jobs to pay people to clean things. Even for low wages so I just improve my community and make rent. Shockingly, this basically doesn't exists Everyone thinks it should exist, except the people in charge.

Exactly, no one is. They think criticizing one is endorsing the other. It is exhausting.

I deleted a petty post. You literally told me our job is to shut up and vote. You are saying we need to sacrifice ourselves to save others.

They think we are a costume, and that costume should have some rights. But still a costume. They support us like they would support anyone dressing weird and wanting to be called a new name. With allies like this . . .

I will be happy if Talarico wins because the alternative is worse. But we want you all to be mad with us, not at us. Join us in pushing back, not say we have to shut up. Every trans person who says anything is swarmed by attacks and that makes us feel like our "allies" don't really side with us.
220
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
That is her take, not mine. I have been repeatedly clear it is about harm reduction. But people are being yelled at for being GOP operatives for saying things like "I wish Talarico hadn't done that" or "fuck that" about it. Every trans person who spoke out got harassed for being anti dem.

All of the trans news is bad, because all of the trans news is bad! There was a good news story the other day and me and my friends were celebrating because we never get good news. Dude, this is a really bad take.

Saying the democrat sucks is not saying I want the republican to win. That is the whole problem. People think it is.

Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
It is only abstract to you. It isn't to us. For us, it is a pretty real thing.
100
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Do you have any idea how truly terrifying this is. Seeing ourselves be the minority that is thrown aside. And in this space, we can't even be upset about it because people come out of the woodwork to say we are in a cult, or secret GOP activists, or don't care about other people.
110
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
As I said elsewhere, obviously vote dem. I would vote to protect others even at my expense. But try to have some fucking sympathy for us. The last 2 days trans people expressing horror that our allies are turning on us is met with hordes of "ya well the GOP is worse so you should shut up".

If trans women are women and trans men are men then there is no reason to exclude them. We hate the sports issue in part because we know its really about people who accept we should live freely, but don't actually see us as who we are. That rejection of our identity opens the door to real hate.
230
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Exactly. Like obviously vote Dem given the choice. Protecting more people is the moral choice. But do not act like these people on the internet have been acting. Treating us like whiny babies not humans terrified of what is coming.

Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
People who do not believe that I, a trans woman, is a woman, equal in all ways under the law, are not squishy allies, they are bigots. Same thing for trans men being men. Did everyone think we were being hyperbolic when we said trans women are women and trans men are men?

Not the one I vote for despite them hating me. Why would they care what I think? They can take my vote for granted.

If one person is killing us and the other is standing there doing nothing, both people are killing us.
3131
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I don't think that is true. Look around this site and Will's posts. The argument is trans people have an ethical responsibility to sacrifice themselves to protect others. A thing by the way, most of us will do. But don't demand we do it with a smile
140
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
You are telling trans people not only do they have to vote for people actively saying they oppose our rights. You demand we do it without complaining.

Were civil rights popular when they passed? Was interracial marriage popular when it was made legal? Or does liberal democracy mean standing up for unpopular rights because that is the entire point of liberal democracy.

No candidate, regardless of party, will ever get my vote if they call me a "biological man" and advocate for laws targeting my community. Its that simple.

Not only do you want trans people to vote for someone who opposes their rights, which to be clear, the vast majority will do. You want us to do it with a smile? You want us to do it without complaining about it? Come on man.

Because what they really want is a world with tremendously less people. Not violently so. I don’t think these people are genocidal. But they don’t care about ensuring 8-10 billion people can live in harmony with nature.
230
Hannah Hodson @rendie.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
It’s because that while they do love nature, and many of these people truly do, they don’t like people. They see people as anathema to nature. The idea we should be helping people live together to help nature doesn’t compute for them because to them people are an annoyance. They also love cars.

It is wild we went from "distracted driving is bad" to "what if every car's dash was a cell phone" so quickly and no government has said anything about it. If using your phone is bad, using this is bad.

The fight for true egalitarian democracy is *intrinsically* a fight against conservatism. That is the core truth that the entire edifice of both-sides media & political institutions is meant to obscure.

The goal isn’t more comfortable capitalism. The goal is acceleration into revolution to hope for better society on the other side. Not my goal, I’m more of a democratic socialist, but I get the desire and feeling this system is not worth saving. Also a lot of bots doing psyops.

People don’t want the same things for more money, they want more things for more money. If I made $75k and could afford x car, if I make $90k now I should be able to afford Y car. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say that people broadly expect their standard of living to increase, not stay the same

The thing about Canada, we are incredibly urbanized, but the rural areas are REALLY rural. And the remote areas are REALLY remote.

Here the thing, we can totally disagree on whether it is real (I don’t think it’s real) but totally agree on this policy. I too want a global moratorium. We can coalition together to get an outcome we want, even if we disagree on why.

We constantly have a fight in Canada where people will say the federal govt is failing at x and then someone will say yes that but that is provincial jurisdiction. People don’t care about that distinction. People see govt as govt. The average person thinks legislators directly run departments.
