From Canada to Iran to farmers to now this, they really seem to struggle with the idea that other people might react negatively to the things they do.

Oh, you don’t like AI cause isn’t ethical or cheap or safe? Well, have you considered that it’s supported by all the most annoying and evil people on earth?

Working on an episode about the Anabaptist kingdom of Münster that lasted about two years and my favorite detail has to be when there was a brief coup in response to the legalization of polygamy. A guy with four wives was put in stocks where a crowd of women pelted him with stones and feces...

That's what I assumed. It's something I think about a lot (especially in the context of the French Revolution) so you just gave me an excuse to spew my thoughts out, haha.

I just say this because I do worry about people overcorrecting against an overly material theory of the far-right and radicalization by ignoring a very real economic factor (especially given the popularity of a certain pundit on this website who loves denying that the material is ever a factor).
130
Chad Denton @reluctantlychad.bsky.social · 5h
And it's never completely ungrounded either, like the "Grub Street" radicals of the French Revolution were well-off (or started so) and enjoyed family support but they really were being crowded out of opportunities. Same with the middle-class young men in the Middle East who joined ISIS.

Chad Denton @reluctantlychad.bsky.social · 5h
I can kind of agree with the overall point, but I think it's not that simple. Over and over in history young men (and quite often women) become radicalized who come from comfortable economic backgrounds but feel deprived of a good future or see their families and communities fall into poverty.

Things are bad but today I learned that George Costanza's epic rant, "I know you're there, laughing and lying!", was reportedly something the girlfriend of the writer's friend shouted at an apartment building while drunk.

Now saying something good about MOULIN ROUGE...hm, I can see why the film is considered great when the garish, empty visuals and inept editing and visual storytelling distract so well from all the vapid, trite cliches and the flat, lifeless characters? Does that count as nice?

Frankly I think even most totalitarian regimes would have the sense to balk at the public execution of a man in a wheelchair regardless of his crimes.

I can respect that position! It's the people who insist "Oh I'm against 'AI', but it really does write very well, I just can't cite any specific examples" who make me wary.

"You AI luddites don't research the topic enough" That may be so, but it's really not something to brag about when you're dealing with an industry that gets its press releases uncritically repeated by the media and where "serious whistleblowers" turn out to be members of a literal cult.

Chad Denton @reluctantlychad.bsky.social · 10h
I can't say I'm fond of the trend of so-called "AI" "moderates" on his hellsite who claim they're also against "AI" because of the industry's excesses and problems but also think the problem with "AI" critics is we don't talk about how great "AI" is enough.

Two neighbors live less than 2,000 feet apart. One pays up to $500/month for electricity. The other averages $130. One has investor-owned National Grid. The other by a municipal utility. @popovichn.bsky.social and I dug into America’s widening power bill divide: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

Heat safety on the job isn’t a benefit, it’s the bare minimum. No one should have to choose between their paycheck and their health. That's why working people across the country are fighting to win heat protections in the workplace. You can too.

I'm just straight-up muting any account I see that shares "AI" images unless it's to explicitly criticize them. This isn't even just because of my own anti-"AI" militancy, I'm at the point where just seeing those hideous, piss-colored images immediately make me nauseous.

Pretty much what I would expect in a country that screams in enraged terror for a week about the very idea that Zionism may be racist, while entirely failing to ask whether the project itself is at all racist, despite the genocide, massive destruction, land seizure and ethnic cleansing
This is incredible.
And not in a good way at all

And I had enough left over to get a Heater Shield for Sheppard at Boltac's Trading Post.
A stern old man wewith a grey beard and wearing a helmet and a leather vest stands at a store counter surrounding by weapons, pieces of armor, and trinkets.

I had a run-in with an unidentified ghostly monster. It attacked the samurai Seth and left him paralyzed. Plus Shume and Veronica are badly hurt. Will they make it out alive?
The character screen shows that Seth is paralyzed.

Another obstacle: a locked door.
A door has a rather ominous iron bar running through it with a lock in the middle. A text book reads, "THE DOOR IS LOCKED."

Even with the chain mail the Trolls were tough, dealing five damage in one attack to my fighter Sheppard, but he gave as good as he got. I also had to share this because I do really like the monster designs in this version, which are not faithful to the original and are Japanese originals.
A green-screened troll is on the screen with a text box reading "Sheppard charges at a troll and hits once for 4 damage."

A few of the party members also gained a level when I stayed at the inn. (Yes, you can lose attribute points in one area, which can be a pain, but it's not as big a deal as you might think and tends to still work in favor of the character's chosen class.)
A text box at the inn reads, "YOU LEARNED NEW SPELLS! DUNN GAINED I.Q., PIETY, LOST VITALITY, GAINED AGILITY, LUCK, 2 HIT POINTS."

Honestly, as much as you like to think of your brave heroes getting at least a Motel 6-standard room after risking their lives inside hell on earth, this is practically required for these games.

Chad Denton @reluctantlychad.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Oh, life hack for this game and WIZARDRY I-III. The inn is expensive, especially when you're starting out, so it's worth it to just sleep in the stables, which are free. It won't restore your HP, but it *he money will* restore your MP, so you can use up your magic to heal everyone. Rinse and repeat.
A woman stands at a desk with the text boxes reading "ADVENTURERS' INN. WELCOME EVERYONE, WE HAVE: THE STABLES (FREE), A COT (60 GP/WEEK), ECONOMY ROOMS (500 GP/WEEK), MERCHANT SUITES (1200 GP/WEEK), THE ROYAL SUITES (3000 GP/WEEK)

While I'm talking about the SNES version, I was wrong. The SNES version is pretty much modeled after the original, so it's similar to this one. I just honestly blanked on the weird puzzle, which I still haven't figured out yet.

I...*think* we'll be seeing animated NPCs in this version of WIZARDRY V (they were definitely in the SNES version). But for the most part in WIZARDRY I-V NPCs were just a text box or several that would trigger once you stepped on a square, like here. Anyway, there's our objective for floor one!
