♻️ Tasmania joins the global push for deposit return schemes with Recycle Rewards, tackling litter and lifting recycling. With beverage containers making up 45% of Tasmainia's litter, this move makes Australia the first continent fully covered by such a system.

In 2024, Swedes returned 2.8 billion PET bottles and cans through their Deposit Return System, up nearly 6%. That’s an average of 271 containers per person♻️ This year, Sweden raises its deposit value – a proven move to push return rates even higher.

Republic of Ireland: System launched in February 2024. A national litter survey by IBAL in January 2025 showed nearly a 50% reduction in plastic bottle and can litter across over 500 monitored sites.
Latvia: System launched in February 2022. Between 2021 and 2023, beverage container litter across 17 coastal sites decreased by 56%. Further reductions: 52% for cans, 61% for PET bottles, and 28% for glass.
Queensland, Australia: System launched in November 2018. An analysis of the Keep Australia Beautiful National Litter Index found a 41% decrease in deposit beverage container litter between the 2017/18 and 2018/19 surveys.
