Day 1 Lyke Wake Dirge is an ancient dirge originating from the north of England. Up until the 1600s a woman would sing the song over the corpse as it lay at the wake, the words are as harsh and unforgiving as the Yorkshire moors themselves, with little comfort or hope for redemption.
