a white thirtysomething man lies upon a hardwood floor surrounded by vintage typewriters, and he has his hand behinds his head (which is sheathed in a wool cap) and he has a shit-eating grin, and he stares above him where the heavens would be — but in this particular photo it's you, the viewer, that he's staring at, and something about his whole vibe seems to say: "i'm that guy. that typewriter guy. the one whose very existence as a type in the world exists as a kind of typewriter-repelling mythos amongst the reasonable."

The climax of revenge at the top of a skyscraper, organized like a Renaissance painting. The Nixon boys recoil with Republican hatred of the body, Burt sees little Peanut mess himself yet again, Pete is giddy at the humiliation, while Don simply overlooks his own craftsmanship.

Don breaks the heart of one more father figure, or rather makes Dad break it for him. With his characteristic dark elegance, Don forces Roger to earn the heights that rich little Peanut was born to inherit.

Pete's gun is finally out of reach and off screen. Reality displaces fantasy. Peggy is beginning to outgrow her sweaters with burgeoning maternal nourishment. But there is none for Pete. His growth will depend on self-knowledge, which brooks no dependency and offers no teat.

Pete stalks the female sex with a boy's first rifle, (unloaded). Soon another sexually unfulfilled little boy with an equally undistinguished gun will ruin Jackie's pink dress and the 20th century.

Pete is trapped in the exchange office and meets a self he wishes he could have been: the son his father wished he'd had. But there are no refunds for existence and it is impossible for him to be other than the man he is, so he gets a gun instead.

Wearing the bluest of blue contact lenses, Helen Bishop is surrounded by food and surprised by sudden violence. Betty's road to freedom runs through assault, and she enforces her right to give parts of her body to strange children.

The MacGuffin of this episode's B-plot. The tomato is a fruit and the newly-wedded Pete is given it by his wife. The male of the species predictably fumbles when presented with the feminine object and it's all he can do to convert the Edenic dip tray into a small-caliber phallus.

The obligatory lamp. When you depict a world with ceilings, all lighting must have a rational source. The traditional high-key studio lights are banished. Even though virtually every interior is in fact a set there is always a gesture to practical lighting.

Betty's ascent to full consciousness has a series of nightmarish midwives. In 'Red In the Face' Roger full of vodka crowds her into a perverse American two shot. Don counterattacks, defending not Betty's honor but his property.
