Tomorrow afternoon I'll host my weekly Twitch stream with updates for these things. I have images to share for the map overview in my game, and I've made progress on writing a chiptunes score for it - I'm hoping to have a fun, interactive setup with Strudel for the stream. Stop by and say hi!

I've been busy! I'm working on graphics, music, and sound effects for my game prototype. I'm trying to flesh out an 'advocacy' section for my site. I'm applying to a job I think I'm unqualified for but desperately need. 🧵

I miss the functionality of last.fm - haven’t really been listening to music as much as I’d like to so I forgot about it. I think I was also having trouble getting it to pick up my MP3 player.I’ll have to remember that trick when I do (just make it yourself).

No worries! I’ve been so bad about prepping for streams, they’ve been a lot shorter than I’d like because I spend a lot of the reserved time doing stuff on the computer (like clipping the stream from the week before). I know that makes it harder for people to stop by.

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

Wow, terrible system we have: “In other instances, people who are experiencing a mental health crisis or chronic pain are discharged. They’re arrested for trespassing after asking to see a doctor again, public defenders said, or for disorderly conduct for yelling and complaining about their care.”

It’s been a really nice couple of weeks. Still stressing about my car though.

020

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

The perks for being a volunteer have been great, too. I don’t have to sit in line anymore. I get access to the dorms whenever I like during the day (they’re locked to everyone else), and I got a bed in the worker’s dorm (a smaller room with people who respect quiet time).

130

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

Cleaning in the mornings has been a nice workout. I liked passing out bedding last night too; it felt good to help. When I first got to the shelter last year no one was doing this job - bedding was just piled up in a closet, and people would help themselves. It was very chaotic.

100

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

All the volunteer positions have simple names: ‘storage’, ‘the rack’, ‘front desk’/‘stay up’. I was at the weekly volunteer meeting recently, curious what the name of the position was for the person who passes out bedding and toiletries at night. Before long I had the answer: ‘towel guy’.

100

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

I started volunteering at the shelter. I help clean the men’s dorms every morning. It’s standard janitorial stuff: sweep & mop floors, take out trash, clean sinks & toilets, restock soap & toilet paper, etc. Last night the towel guy was missing, so I stepped in to help with that. #homelesslife

A view from inside the bedding distribution room at Reklaw’s shelter. A large window in the wall has its wooden latch opened, fastened to the ceiling with a wire. In front of the window is a desk with a clipboard to record new bedding bags, soap, blue latex gloves (which are used to hold soap for people to shower with), masking tape and marker, and various other items. An office chair sits in front of the desk. Shelving on the right holds various items, including the few remaining towels for the night. There’s a corkboard on the left with an inventory tracking sheet. Beyond the window the start of the restroom area xan be seen - a sink and mirror are visible against a wall, an electrical outlet, and the top tip of a trash can.

The opposite view, looking into the room from outside the window. There’s a small pile of used bedding piled on the floor in the corner. The wooden countertop at the bottom of the window is more visible from this angle. Inside the window the shelving with towels can be seen again. Beyond it are green metal racks, almost empty. 4 tied black trash bags with bedding inside are on the wracks, some with illegible names written on masking tape.

the most important thing to understand about united states politics is that the democrats are not weak, incompetent, cowardly, or ineffective. They're just In On It. once you realize this, everything you previously found confusing about the subject will make perfect, obvious sense.

More barrels, more wide range. But remember, reach is shoot. 📖: Bionic Commando instruction manual, 1988

A snap from a scan of the manual on the internet archive (Hubz), with an illustration of an M16-ish riifle with extra barrels stuck up and down at an angle above and below the main one, to try and conceptualize what a non sci-fi scatter gun might look like.

I should probably figure that out things like linting and logging too, but I just want to get something functional right now. No one will be interacting with the service yet: going for a 0-player game for the first version of the prototype. #AdonisJS has been fun to learn. Reminds me of #RubyOnRails

I'm making good progress on the backend for my #MMO. I've hammered out the basic flow for the rapid prototype. I've never worked with #TypeScript before and I made the silly mistake of writing a ton of code without compiling it regularly. Stream in two days (Wednesday 8-19) for progress updates! 🧵

There's a personally meaningful gaming anniversary today: the 40th since the release of Binary Systems' Starflight. Starflight is one of the great early free-roaming space exploration games that laid the template for many more after it. Very much the Mass Effect of its time. 1/2

The best way to do that is to form new systems, explore new platforms, and work to dismantle the systems of supremacy that enable this kind of mass-theft. I don't know how exactly we will do this work, but I want to believe in my comrades, rather than give in to the despair of constant oppression.

020

Reklaw @reklawcodes.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Again, this affects everyone on Twitch, but right now it looks like only streamers have the power to opt out. I think it's good for everyone to uncheck the setting anyway, just in case! The machines are here; we need to organize, build power, and stay vigilant.
