After looking at the source code, I understood how it works. PDS just pipe DMs to upstream API server... github.com/bluesky-soci... The good news is that you won't need to consider the public data issue, for now.

If I get it correct, there are no Private Messages in #ATProto. There are only Direct Messages. Because anything you publish to your PDS is public. So if it's true, always keep that in mind when you are DMing others. For example, do not share secrets.

I believe there are still connections from PDS server to Bluesky's services, for example plc.directory (it's hardcoded). In other words it's absolutely NOT an independent server. But what surprised me is that Bluesky application does not require an AppView to function. I'm looking for more proofs.

Hours experiencing Bluesky ecosystem... I didn't find it very satisfying, especially when compared to Fediverse applications like Mastodon and Misskey, which is more like a club in every instance. Bluesky is like X but you own data, but nothing more.
