Nearly 100 years ago, naturalists Henry & Felicia Williams noticed that birds in their Connecticut garden seemed to have favourite colours for their nest-building materials. We've now shown that they were was onto something in a new paper our today in Learning & Behavior 1/3

🚨Not one, but two papers now out on response inhibition (also called motoric self-regulation or inhibitory control in the field of animal cognition). Many studies find no link between individual performance on different tasks supposedly measuring response inhibition. 1/6

New publication! 🚨 If you're looking for a paper on what great tits eat then this is for you! 🦋🐛🐞🪲🐦 We looked at variation in diet using DNA metabarcoding and found lots of differences between adult and young birds and between habitat types. @ucc.ie onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Students listened to 🐸 calls and analyzed their spectrograms to learn about tradeoffs in nature: frogs can have long calls or frequent calls, not both! Then tried to figure out which call attracts more ladies. Great lesson set called Balancing Act by Galactic Polymath! www.galacticpolymath.com

This is a great write up on a really cool study and I was happy to be able to chime in with some thoughts. It's really a shame that the great science in the article is overshadowed by the attacks on federal science funding in the US. We risk losing so many people and so much knowledge.
