A few of the rare flat spots on #SlowWays WesSev5 between Westerham and Sevenoaks. Undulating and beautiful. Sumptuous woodlands. Pockets bulging with chestnuts.
Brown earhen path streamed wit dappled sunshine. Thin trees eitherside reach up into a luminous green of leaves lit by sunshine.

Widely space tall pine trees standing straight and tallChestnuts swarm like dribbles across a path .old stragglers coppice trees stand alongside.A path between a tall hegde and a fence odd wire stretched between wooden posts. Young Amanita muscaria on the woodland floor. I missed that woodland smell which was absent during this dry summer. So happy the rain has brought it back.
Amanita muscaria or Fly Agaric mushroom. Typical fairytale toadstool, white stem, red domed top with white flecks. Here about 10cm high in amongst yellow leaves and small brown twigs. Blurred bright green woodland in the background.

Biggleswade to Stotfold #SlowWays big fields, bigger skies. Kestrels hover, kites soar. Clouds congregated then coalesced for showers in the evening.
Grey grit path curls left past .To the right grassy fields with a farm in the distance.
https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Bigsto/4718Patchy blue sky, then just flat green fields. There is a ditch to the left, unseen. Quite a monotonous image.A green strip of grass heads uphill. Brown stubble to the left, green hedge line to the right. No bird song on industrial farms.Blue grey sky. A green path goes straight between newly drilled brown earth fields. Wires on telegraph poles dissappear ino the distance.

Managed to dodge the rain but the lightning app kept pinging in a menacing way. Fine #SlowWays walks Warlingham to Selsdon to Kenley. Great views from Riddlesdown.
Coming down off Riddlesdown towards Kenley. A steep chalky path descends obliquely down a very steep grassy hill towards a road and shops far below.Looking NW across a parched grassy field edged by trees. London sits grey on the horizon. Cloudy skies.Mitchell Hill. Parched grassy path heading to a green tree covered hill. The path veers right down the valley.Sunlight through leaves shine brightly overhead and all around like walking down the aisle of a green cathederal.

#SlowWays route Oxted to Edenbridge. Lots of stiles on this one @lakesstiles.bsky.social . But also ancient woods with welcome shade. Good walk this one.
Parched brown grass, trees on the horizon and blue skies with cumulus. A wooden fence with cross-step stile almost blending into the brown grass background. Rather overgrown wooden single-step stile abbutting a locked metal gate. The step is wobbly, the brambles are prickly. Another overgrown single-step stile. Not brambles this time but himalayan balsam. High cross-step stile in front of a flight of stairs going up an embankment to a railway crossing. A reasonable inside leg measurement needed for this one.

Westerham across the North Downs to New Addington #SlowWays. Very beige, soporific in the heat. But a stunning walk in beautiful countryside. Leaves begining to drop in the drought. Can I really be missing the mud?
Looking along a dry chalk valley. Brown grass in the foreground, willing green trees on the slopes. Blue sky.
https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Newwes/10830Recreational stile, alone in long brown grass. A gap in the trees behind hide a very much functional and difficult to climb stile. A recreational gatest in parched grass field. Trodden grass path curves around it. Greener fields and trees seen on the opposite valley side.
Keen eyes will spot my friend, Adventure Bear, trying to open the gate.Oh the relief of dense shade in woodland. Tall trees stand like a guard of honour either side of an earthen path. Some green leaves are scattered on the path, dropped by the trees stressed by drought.

#SlowWays between Hornsea and Hull, a disused railway drawn with a ruler on the map. Set legs to automatic and enjoy vast skies and being surrounded by flocks of swallows. Watch the Harvest in progress. Thistle seed and butterflies compete for the nonchalant traveller award.
A very straight path lined by parched grass a low green hedges. A tree in the distance. Ripe wheat in the fields to the sides.Another vanishing point. A very straight path lined by parched grass and green bushy vegetation. Unripe plums and elder berries. A crumbling platform with trees on it waiting for a train that will not come, they are patient. The same path continues to vanish into the distance.Ah! A simple bench to rest, yes the path continues. But look a small wooden house stands against the leg of the bench under the seat. Fairies? Elves? They'll stay inside in this heat.

New Addington to Orpington #SlowWays A walk that would have been better in cooler weather, but lovely nevertheless. A mix of aircraft seen close to Biggin Hill.
Very welcome shade. A sloping path alongside a wire fence. Trees arch overhead. Dark green ivy in the foreground bright green hazel ahead.Track going down a gentle slope. Wire fence and a parched open field to the right, hedgerow to the left. Fields rise in the background. Rickety stile frames a wide grassy path full of wild flowers. Wild oregano, wild carrot, poppies, thistles, yarrow. Wide track flanked by wild carrot blooms. Trees and fields in the distance beyond a narrow road. Three walkers can just be seen heading towards you. Blue skies with cumulus.

Woking to Cobham #SlowWays Another varied and interesting walk over different terrains and landscapes. Linear walks tend to have greater variety as, by definition, they do not return to the same place. No déjà vu!
