Would also be great to see news articles more clearly differentiate between "shelter" (temporary) and "housing" (permanent). Very few people in encampments are being offered housing because there is no housing available.

Disappointing news that will continue expensive, time consuming litgation. RoW knows that over 2,300 people are homeless right now, and there isn't system capacity to house everyone. People will continue to camp, bylaw or no bylaw, the difference is they will be less safe and supported.

It remains unthinkable to me that those with no access to a place to sleep, those who now have lost even their last resort of communal shelter, will continue being at risk of being further uprooted, and their own efforts at self preservation put in jeopardy. MyMotherNamedMeSunshine.ca

Text: At a Waterloo Region budget meeting last week, Coun. Pam Wolf reminded fellow councillors that across the region, there are more than 500 emergency shelter spaces for men, but only 60 for women. In Cambridge, there are 24 spots for women but 80 for men, plus a warming centre for men in the winter.

Our team attended two days of mediation with the Region of Waterloo regarding the 100 Victoria St. Encampment case, and were unable to reach an agreement. We are now preparing to appear before the Court in February 2026 and will provide updates at wrcls.ca/3878-2
